Arthur Staple, of Newsday, reports the New York Giants will officially release LB Barrett Green again. His release was announced Feb. 25, but because of guaranteed money owed the oft-injured linebacker, his waiver was rescinded until the beginning of the free-agency period, which is now Saturday, March 11.

Mike Garafolo, of the Star-Ledger, reports the New York Giants are expected to release LB Barrett Green soon. Green's second year with the Giants in 2005 was his last. Green's base salary next season was scheduled to be $2.475 million. Minus the $1.1 million in signing-bonus money owed him the next two years; the Giants will save $1.375 million on next season's salary cap by cutting him.

The Star-Ledger reports New York Giants LB Barrett Green (ankle), who had surgery on his ankle in the off-season after undergoing a procedure to fix a torn ACL in January, might be headed for the operating table again. "The surgery (on his ankle) they did was to clear it out, but there's still stuff floating around," Green said Monday, Oct. 17. "If I have surgery, it'll be a scope and that'll be a few more weeks."

Michael Eisen, of Giants.com, reports New York Giants LB Barrett Green (knee) played briefly Thursday, Sept. 1, his first game action since last December. "It felt good to be back out there," Green said. "I was a little rusty. Basically I just went out and executed what I was supposed to do. I didn't really have much action, but honestly it was just good to be back out there a little bit. The knee feels good. It feels strong, almost normal. I am looking forward to next week. I'll give it some rest this weekend and hopefully be ready to go next week."

Coughlin said Green is being brought along and his time on the field is building. While doctors are very encouraged, the team is currently moving on because he is not healthy enough. He has been replaced in the starting lineup by LB Carlos Emmons.

New York Giants head coach Tom Coughlin said he does not expect Giants LB Barrett Green (knee) to practice twice a day. "We are trying to do the best we can with fitting him in so that he gets all his work even if it is in a limited capacity," said Coughlin. "We will continue to do that and unless the training room and the doctors tell me any different, it will remain that way." Coughlin said that hopefully Green will be ready for the regular season opener.
