The Cincinnati Bengals lead the NFL in salary cap space; however, head coach Marvin Lewis said the team's priority is to keep the players it has, not to add a lot of high-priced free agents from other teams. "Our cap space needs to be spent on our own players," Lewis said.

Cincinnati Bengals QB Andy Dalton said he feels no extra pressure to become more of a vocal leader. Head coach Marvin Lewis said he wanted Dalton and LB Rey Maualuga to become more fiery. "I don't feel any pressure," Dalton said. "What it comes down to is me being me, and hopefully doing enough that it's gonna satisfy him ... (Lewis) believes in us. Nothing that he's doubting us or anything like that. It's a challenge. We're where we are. Nothing we can do about it right now. We'll just improve and get better."

The Cincinnati Bengals, including head coach Marvin Lewis, know QB Carson Palmer will not play for them again, according to a general manager with a club that could use a quarterback, reports Clark Judge, of CBSSports.com. However, the GM also believes Palmer won't be dealt - if he's dealt at all - for nearly a year. Once a new collective bargaining agreement is in place, the Bengals will be free to field offers, only there's a widespread belief that they won't be interested. If the Bengals grant Palmer his wish and trade him, owner Mike Brown sees it as a precedent for other disgruntled players to follow.

Auburn athletic department officials are anticipating a crowd of potentially over 125 NFL coaches and pro personnel types for the school's Pro Day Tuesday, March 8, according to Gil Brandt, of NFL.com. Carolina Panthers head coach Ron Rivera and Cincinnati Bengals head coach Marvin Lewis were seen in attendance. The headliners of Auburn's Pro Day will include QB Cam Newton and DL Nick Fairley; however, 22 players in all will be measured, tested and run through drills.

Lewis wants changes in how the organization operates, including more control over roster decisions. He also has lobbied for years for a covered practice field. Lewis turned down an extension last season, saying their differences had to be resolved before he would agree to stay.

Lewis said he has discussed an extension a few times with Bengals president Mike Brown and that their working relationship is good. "I try to check in every two or three days while I'm gone," Lewis said. "It's better when we can talk in person and he can give his thoughts on where we are and I can tell him where we are as far as the roster and looking at things as we go forward. We can pretty much come to a conclusion and direction between the two of us."

Bengals | Johnson walked out of meeting

Updating previous reports, Jay Glazer, of FOXSports.com, reports Cincinnati Bengals WR Chad Johnson has been deactivated for the team's Week 12 game for walking out during a team meeting, sources said. Johnson went to the team meeting groggy and was told by offensive coordinator Bob Bratkowski to sit up straight. After Johnson refused, Bratkowski repeated his demand. At one point in the meeting, Johnson got up and walked out of the meeting. Head coach Marvin Lewis traced down Johnson after shouting for him to come back. Lewis told Johnson to go home after some heated words were exchanged.
