Michael, our Saints correspondent, citing the Biloxi Sun Herald tells us the Saints are currently $4.4 million under the 1999 salary cap and are pondering their next Free Agent moves. They are reportedly still interested in FAs WR Jeff Graham, LB Rob Frederickson and S Marty Carter (visiting Atlanta today), who have all visited the team recently. According to their agents, Graham and Carter are interested in signing with the team. The Sun-Herald believes the Saints have lost interest in RB Darick Holmes.

The Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel is reporting that RB Darick Holmes had hoped to sign a deal with New England this week, but the Patriots initial offer wasn't high enough to keep him from looking elsewhere. Meanwhile, John Clayton of ESPN said the Patriots weren't thrilled with Holmes during his visit there this week, and that he was unsure whether they would make a concerted effort to sign him. Apparently they haven't. Holmes is now planning on traveling to Kansas City early next week.

The expected visit of RB Darick Holmes to the Saints took place today, but the possible quick contract signing has not occurred. WWL-TV reports that Holmes now plans to visit the Chargers and Patriots. He has already visited the Colts. Holmes' agent did tell the Biloxi Sun-Herald prior to the visit the Saints "made sense" for Holmes. Neither side has commented on contract talks or mutual interest following the visit.

Michael, our New Orleans correspondent, reports The Biloxi Sun-Herald reported today the team has been in contact with agents for WRs Charles Johnson (just signed with Philadelphia), Leslie Shepherd and Jeff Graham, as well as RB Darick Holmes of Green Bay. The paper quoted a report by New Orleans' WVUE-TV that stated Holmes would visit the team over the next two days. Mark the Saints' interest in Holmes as strong. Saints' capologist Terry O'Neil told WWL Radio yesterday that he expected the Saints to announce another FA signing tomorrow and Holmes is expected to be the only visitor to the Saints between now and then. Speculation also indicates the Saints may have already begun work on a contract with Holmes.
