LB Liam Ezekiel intercepted a pass from QB Kelly Holcomb in seven-on-seven drills, CB Terrence McGee intercepted QB J.P. Losman during the team portion of practice and LB Jeff Posey recovered a fumble during the morning workout. SS Matt Bowen intercepted another Losman pass during the afternoon session and DL Mark Work recovered a fumble by WR Roscoe Parrish.

Admittedly, Posey also can't deny the visions of a Super Bowl berth that have crossed his mind. "We have a great chance of going all the way," Posey said. "If the offense can score like they did last season, and this defense plays the way we know we can, we're going to be very difficult to beat." Posey was the NFL's first free agent signing this year, coming in from the Houston Texans just a few hours into the free agency period.

Financial details of the four-year contract, a deal confirmed by Bills GM Tom Donahoe, were not yet available. "Our (coaches) liked him a lot," said Donahoe. The Baltimore Sun reports the Baltimore Ravens worked out seven linebackers on Thursday in an effort to replace the released Cornell Brown. The most notable names: Eddie Mason, a surprise cut by the Redskins; Ryan Phillips, cut by the Raiders; Jeff Posey, let go by Eagles; and Dwayne Gordon, who was cut by the Jets. The Ravens apparently won't sign any of these players until Monday at the earliest when they will not be locked into their salary for the whole year.

As an update to previous stories, Matt Maiocco reports for the Press Democrat the San Francisco 49ers will give the Cincinnati Bengals competition in the race to sign free agent DT Dana Stubblefield. Stubblefield reportedly wants to sign with the 49ers and GM Bill Walsh acknowledged Thursday that a deal could be struck before June. The 49ers are currently only $248,000 under the salary cap. "There may be a single move we can make," Walsh said. "If we were to sign another player, we'd have to release two men and use all of the cap money that's available to us now. The team would like to re-sign LB Jeff Posey, released on Thursday in a cap savings move. In what has become a daily story, agent Scott Crawford remains upset with the 49ers over their handling of a contract offer he presented them last weekend for his client free agent RB Charlie Garner.

According to their official site, the San Francisco 49ers made tender offers to nine free agents today. FS Lance Schulters, FB Fred Beasley, LB Jeff Posey and K Wade Richey were the restricted free agents issued tenders. Schulters was given the highest tender meaning his compensatioin will be first and third round draft choices. Beasely was given the middle tender of $1.115 million which requires a first round pick as compensation. Posey and Richey were given minimum tenders of $512,000. The 49ers made tenders to exclusive-rights free agents, QB Jeff Garcia, RB Jonas Lewis, C Ben Lynch, S Ronnie Heard and P Chad Stanley.
