The Associated Press reports Arizona State has hired Dennis Erickson as their new head coach. Erickson signed a five-year contract with Idaho a year ago, but he left after just one season.

The Associated Press reports the University of Idaho has hired Dennis Erickson as their new head coach. He had his first head coaching position at Idaho from 1982-1985 before leaving for a string of college jobs that included two national championships at Miami. Erickson signed a five-year contract worth about $1.5 million. It contains performance bonuses that could push that figure to $2.5 million, athletic director Rob Spear said.

Vince Trimboli, of KBCI-TV.com, reports sources close to the University of Idaho told Local 2 News Sports that the school has made an offer to Dennis Erickson to be new head coach of the team's football team. "It's his to change his mind on," the source said. "It has been offered."

Gary Klein, of the Los Angeles Times, reports Idaho athletic director Rob Spear said he has engaged in preliminary discussions with former San Francisco 49ers head coach Dennis Erickson about returning to Idaho as head coach. Spear said he had not offered the job to Erickson. As noted earlier, Idaho head coach Nick Holt left to become an assistant coach with the St. Louis Rams.

Matthew Barrows, of the Sacramento Bee, reports St. Louis Rams head coach Scott Linehan could hire free agent head coach Dennis Erickson (49ers). Erickson has hoped to return to coaching, but did not discuss a possible role with the Rams. Erickson coached Linehan at the University of Idaho when he arrived in 1982 as a quarterback.

Mike Sullivan, of the North County Times, reports former San Francisco 49ers head coach Dennis Erickson is interested in the San Diego St. head coaching vacancy. Erickson is a highly successful coach who won two National Championships at the University of Miami in addition to coaching successful teams at four other universities and two NFL teams, including the aforementioned 49ers. Erickson said he has not yet been contacted by San Diego St. officials.

Matt Maiocco, of the Press Democrat, reports San Francisco 49ers head coach Dennis Erickson is set to interview with Mississippi officials about the university's head-coaching position, a 49ers spokesman confirmed Tuesday, Dec. 14. Mississippi officials contacted 49ers general manager Terry Donahue on Monday, Dec. 13 to extend the courtesy of asking for permission to speak with Erickson, the team announced. "I received a phone call last night from Pete Boone, the athletic director from the University of Mississippi, requesting permission to talk to Dennis Erickson about their head coaching position," Donahue said in a statement. "After meeting with Dennis to gauge his interest I called Mr. Boone back and granted permission. They will be meeting with Dennis sometime in the next 24 hours."
