The Los Angeles Dodgers finalized their two-year, $8.75 million deal with 2B Mark Ellis Tuesday, Nov. 15. The contract includes a $5.75 million team option for the 2014 season. He will make $2.5 million next year and $5.25 million in 2013 and will be the team's starting second baseman. Ellis will make an additional $25,000 for each 500, 525, 550, 575 and 600 plate appearances. The option includes a $1 million buyout.

The Los Angeles Dodgers are likely to search for a veteran catcher to pair with C A.J. Ellis in spring training next year after losing C Rod Barajas to the Pittsburgh Pirates. C Tim Federowicz will likely begin the year in the minors. The team will also look for a second baseman and utility infielder, with candidates including re-signing 2Bs Jamey Carroll or Aaron Miles, or going after free-agent 2B Aaron Hill (Diamondbacks), SS Clint Barmes (Astros), OF Jerry Hairston Jr. (Nationals) or 2B Mark Ellis (Rockies).

The Colorado Rockies want to re-sign 2B Mark Ellis this offseason, but for something around $3 million for the year. Ellis made $6 million this year, plus incentives. The team could also opt to go outside the organization and pursue St. Louis Cardinals SS Rafael Furcal or Seattle Mariners 3B Chone Figgins.

The Oakland Athletics acquired OF Eliezer Mesa from the Colorado Rockies Friday, Sept. 30, to complete the trade that sent 2B Mark Ellis to the Rockies earlier this year.
