Reds | Billy Hamilton, Jose Peraza in lineup

Tue, 17 May 2016 11:05:25 -0700

Cincinnati Reds OF Billy Hamilton returns to the starting lineup and is hitting second against Cleveland Indians SP Danny Salazar Tuesday, May 17. 2B Jose Peraza draws a start at second base and is batting eighth. 2B Brandon Phillips is serving as the designated hitter in an American League park.

Fantasy Tip: Hamilton missed a handful of games while on the bereavement list. Get him back into seasonal lineups for his speed. The second spot in the lineup boosts his value for steals. Peraza also has appeal for his speed and should've been added in deep mixed and NL-only leagues. Unfortunately he's a low-end option in DFS sitting that low in the order in a tough matchup tonight.

Reds | Joey Votto sitting out

Wed, 11 May 2016 11:25:15 -0700

Cincinnati Reds 1B Joey Votto is out of the lineup Wednesday, May 11, with 2B Brandon Phillips moving up to the three-hole. 1B Jordan Pacheco is hitting seventh.

Fantasy Tip: BP has a .333-5-9 line the last week. Digest that, and plug him in against Juan Nicasio today. Pacheco is hitting .241 without an RBI and isn't worth much consideration.

Reds | Brandon Phillips launches two home runs

Sun, 08 May 2016 06:08:06 -0700

Cincinnati Reds 2B Brandon Phillips went 2-for-5 with two solo home runs during the Reds' 13-7 loss to the Milwaukee Brewers Saturday, May 7.

Fantasy Tip: Phillips is off to a solid start with 16 runs, six home runs, 16 RBI, three stolen bases and a .297/.324/.554 slash line, and health permitting, the veteran stands to return another solid fantasy season. He is a viable starting option at the keystone in the majority of seasonal leagues.

Reds | Brandon Phillips heating up

Thu, 05 May 2016 18:50:19 -0700

Cincinnati Reds 2B Brandon Phillips finished 2-for-3 with a two-run home run and three RBI in a win over the Milwaukee Brewers on Thursday, May 05.

Fantasy Tip: That's consecutive games with a homer for the 34-year-old, who had left the yard once over his first 23 contests. Phillips is batting .293 and seems to have a firm hold of the No. 4 spot in the order behind Joey Votto and in front of Jay Bruce and Eugenio Suarez. Even in his mid-30s, the three-time All-Star brings a nice mix of power and speed to a weak fantasy position. Owners can do much worse than him at a middle infield spot.

Reds | Brandon Phillips back in HR column

Wed, 04 May 2016 16:11:10 -0700

Cincinnati Reds 2B Brandon Phillips hit his second home run of the season against the San Francisco Giants Wednesday, May 4, and his first in 22 games since April 8. Phillips went 2-for-4 in the game with a run scored and RBI and is now hitting .281 on the year.

Fantasy Tip: The veteran isn't flashy, but he continues to contribute across the board with two home runs, eight RBI and three stolen bases. Phillips remains relevant in the majority of fantasy leagues.

Reds | Brandon Phillips back in the lineup

Fri, 29 Apr 2016 12:05:39 -0700

Cincinnati Reds 2B Brandon Phillips (finger) is back in the starting lineup and batting fourth against Pittsburgh Pirates SP Juan Nicasio Friday, April 29.

Fantasy Tip: Phillips is off to a nice start with a .308/.343/.462 slash line, nine runs and seven RBI. He is a low-end starter at the keystone, but he is also more than serviceable given his across-the-board production. You'll likely want to see him prove his health before utilizing him in daily contests, though.

Reds | Brandon Phillips still out

Wed, 27 Apr 2016 11:46:32 -0700

Cincinnati Reds 2B Brandon Phillips (finger) remains out of the starting lineup Wednesday, April 27. 2B Ivan De Jesus is starting at second base again and is hitting second against New York Mets SP Matt Harvey.

Fantasy Tip: De Jesus hit his first home run of the year last night, but that shouldn't lead you to believe he'll be a great value play in daily games two days in a row. After all, De Jesus has only five career home runs, including his long ball last night.

Reds | Brandon Phillips beaten up

Tue, 26 Apr 2016 20:14:05 -0700

Updating a previous report, Cincinnati Reds 2B Brandon Phillips (finger, shin, foot) is dealing with several nagging injuries, and that's why he was sidelined Tuesday, April 26. He fouled consecutive pitches off his left foot and shin Monday, April 25, and was hit on the left ring finger by a fastball. Manager Bryan Price said his shin had inflammation.

Fantasy Tip: With Phillips sidelined it was Eugenio Suarez stepping into the cleanup spot. Keep Phillips reserved in all fantasy leagues, and avoid him in DFS play, until he can officially return and prove his health.

Reds | Brandon Phillips out Tuesday

Tue, 26 Apr 2016 13:09:55 -0700

Cincinnati Reds 2B Brandon Phillips (finger) is not in the starting lineup Tuesday, April 26, against the New York Mets. 2B Ivan De Jesus Jr. will hit seventh against Mets SP Bartolo Colon.

Fantasy Tip: Phillips may miss a bit of time but the X-rays were negative. If you are in daily leagues keep an eye out for his status and avoid him accordingly. De Jesus is 2-for-9 in the past week and carries little, if any, fantasy value.

Reds | Brandon Phillips hopes to play

Tue, 26 Apr 2016 09:12:29 -0700

Cincinnati Reds 2B Brandon Phillips (finger), who was hit on the finger Monday, April 25, said he hopes to play again Tuesday, April 26, after X-rays on his injured finger came back negative. "Probably the most painful at-bat I ever had in my career," Phillips said. Phillips has 33 straight hits in road games he has played against the New York Mets.

Fantasy Tip: There's a good chance Phillips won't be in the starting lineup tonight, so make plans to be without him. It looks like he dodged a bullet, though, and he should continue to be fantasy relevant as a midrange second baseman with the ability to contribute across all categories.
