Reds | Brandon Phillips back in the lineup

Fri, 29 Apr 2016 12:05:39 -0700

Cincinnati Reds 2B Brandon Phillips (finger) is back in the starting lineup and batting fourth against Pittsburgh Pirates SP Juan Nicasio Friday, April 29.

Fantasy Tip: Phillips is off to a nice start with a .308/.343/.462 slash line, nine runs and seven RBI. He is a low-end starter at the keystone, but he is also more than serviceable given his across-the-board production. You'll likely want to see him prove his health before utilizing him in daily contests, though.

Reds | Brandon Phillips still out

Wed, 27 Apr 2016 11:46:32 -0700

Cincinnati Reds 2B Brandon Phillips (finger) remains out of the starting lineup Wednesday, April 27. 2B Ivan De Jesus is starting at second base again and is hitting second against New York Mets SP Matt Harvey.

Fantasy Tip: De Jesus hit his first home run of the year last night, but that shouldn't lead you to believe he'll be a great value play in daily games two days in a row. After all, De Jesus has only five career home runs, including his long ball last night.

Reds | Brandon Phillips beaten up

Tue, 26 Apr 2016 20:14:05 -0700

Updating a previous report, Cincinnati Reds 2B Brandon Phillips (finger, shin, foot) is dealing with several nagging injuries, and that's why he was sidelined Tuesday, April 26. He fouled consecutive pitches off his left foot and shin Monday, April 25, and was hit on the left ring finger by a fastball. Manager Bryan Price said his shin had inflammation.

Fantasy Tip: With Phillips sidelined it was Eugenio Suarez stepping into the cleanup spot. Keep Phillips reserved in all fantasy leagues, and avoid him in DFS play, until he can officially return and prove his health.

Reds | Brandon Phillips out Tuesday

Tue, 26 Apr 2016 13:09:55 -0700

Cincinnati Reds 2B Brandon Phillips (finger) is not in the starting lineup Tuesday, April 26, against the New York Mets. 2B Ivan De Jesus Jr. will hit seventh against Mets SP Bartolo Colon.

Fantasy Tip: Phillips may miss a bit of time but the X-rays were negative. If you are in daily leagues keep an eye out for his status and avoid him accordingly. De Jesus is 2-for-9 in the past week and carries little, if any, fantasy value.

Reds | Brandon Phillips hopes to play

Tue, 26 Apr 2016 09:12:29 -0700

Cincinnati Reds 2B Brandon Phillips (finger), who was hit on the finger Monday, April 25, said he hopes to play again Tuesday, April 26, after X-rays on his injured finger came back negative. "Probably the most painful at-bat I ever had in my career," Phillips said. Phillips has 33 straight hits in road games he has played against the New York Mets.

Fantasy Tip: There's a good chance Phillips won't be in the starting lineup tonight, so make plans to be without him. It looks like he dodged a bullet, though, and he should continue to be fantasy relevant as a midrange second baseman with the ability to contribute across all categories.

Reds | Brandon Phillips drilled, leaves game

Mon, 25 Apr 2016 17:35:21 -0700

Cincinnati Reds 2B Brandon Phillips (hand) was hit in the left hand by a fastball from New York Mets SP Noah Syndergaard and had to leave the game Monday, April 25.

Fantasy Tip: That's certainly never good to get plunked by someone who throws as hard as Syndergaard. It's not known what the severity of the injury might be but if he has to miss any time, Ivan De Jesus would probably benefit the most. More should be known following the game.

Reds | Brandon Phillips returns to lineup

Fri, 08 Apr 2016 09:59:42 -0700

Cincinnati Reds 2B Brandon Phillips (illness) is back in the starting lineup Friday, April 8, and is hitting cleanup against Pittsburgh Pirates SP Francisco Liriano.

Fantasy Tip: Phillips sat out the last two days with an illness and is hitless in his first three at-bats in 2016. Get him back into your lineups Friday, but be wary of using him in daily formats coming off a sickness and against Liriano, who looked really sharp in his debut.

Reds | Brandon Phillips out Thursday

Thu, 07 Apr 2016 06:58:28 -0700

Cincinnati Reds 2B Brandon Phillips (illness) is out of the lineup Thursday, April 7, with OF Adam Duvall hitting cleanup.

Fantasy Tip: Duvall might be a cheap DFS flyer against Charlie Morton today.

Reds | Brandon Phillips scratched vs. Philly

Wed, 06 Apr 2016 15:41:50 -0700

Cincinnati Reds 2B Brandon Phillips (illness) was a late scratch because of a stomach virus Wednesday, April 6. 2B Ivan De Jesus is starting at the keystone and batting seventh against Philadelphia Phillies SP Aaron Nola Wednesday.

Fantasy Tip: Make sure to remove Phillips from your lineups, especially in daily contests. De Jesus is nothing more than a low-priced flier for daily players Wednesday. Check back for updates, but you can expect Phillips to return to the starting lineup against the Pittsburgh Pirates Friday, April 8.

Reds | Brandon Phillips not subject of trade talks

Sun, 31 Jan 2016 15:57:58 -0800

Cincinnati Reds 2B Brandon Phillips has not been the subject of any trade talks in the offseason since talks with the Arizona Diamondbacks. He appears to be the starter for the Reds entering 2016.

Fantasy Tip: Phillips should be one of the key Reds entering the season with some of the trades that have been made. He should be considered a decent pickup on draft day as his speed has picked up once again.
