Sun, 19 May 2013 10:02:24 -0700 New York Yankees DH Travis Hafner (shoulder) hit a two-run homer in his return to the lineup Saturday, May 19, against the Toronto Blue Jays. He had missed the previous five games because of right shoulder inflammation.
Fri, 17 May 2013 11:00:16 -0700 New York Yankees 1B Mark Teixeira (wrist) hit a couple home runs off curveballs from a pitching machine at the team's minor league complex in Florida Thursday, May 16. 3B Alex Rodriguez (hip) hit off a tee and swung at soft toss in a batting cage as he finishes his second week of baseball activities. DH Travis Hafner (shoulder) took batting practice and hopes to return Friday, May 17. Fantasy Tip: Teixeira and A-Rod slowly recover from their injuries while in Florida. Teixeira could be back at some point next month, although when exactly that might be is unknown. You'll have to wait longer for Rodriguez; he'll be out until at least the All-Star break.
Wed, 15 May 2013 11:42:29 -0700 New York Yankees DH Travis Hafner's (shoulder) MRI exam showed tendonitis in his right shoulder, and he'll be out until at least Thursday, May 16. Fantasy Tip: Hafner has been a pleasant surprise for the Yankees to begin the season with them missing several big-name players. This is the best-case scenario for Hafner, but it reminds his owners that he's been injury prone in his career; he's played more than 100 games only once since 2008. The return of Curtis Granderson will likely take at-bats away from Hafner, too, making him less valuable in mixed leagues.
Tue, 14 May 2013 13:19:33 -0700 New York Yankees OF Curtis Granderson (forearm) is making his season debut batting cleanup and starting in left field Tuesday, May 14. The team has decided that they are better defensively with OF Brett Gardner in center field. OFs Vernon Wells and Ichiro Suzuki are both expected to continue seeing playing time with Granderson back. Wells is the designated hitter Tuesday. Fantasy Tip: The biggest loser in this scenario is probably Travis Hafner. His limited positional eligibility also hurts his value in deep mixed leagues, too. Wells and Suzuki won't play as much as they were, but they should continue to see enough at-bats to remain valuable in cavernous mixed leagues.
Tue, 14 May 2013 13:08:47 -0700 New York Yankees DH Travis Hafner (shoulder) is dealing with a sore right shoulder and will undergo an MRI exam.
Fri, 19 Apr 2013 20:09:34 -0700 New York Yankees DH Travis Hafner smoked his fifth home run of the season Friday, April 19, against the Toronto Blue Jays. Fantasy Tip: Hafner has pulled into a tie for the team lead in homers, and he has 10 RBI through 15 games. He has re-emerged as a must-start in most AL-only fantasy leagues, although he is still a risky play in mixed formats.
Wed, 10 Apr 2013 07:19:10 -0700 New York Yankees DH Travis Hafner made tweaks in his swing's approach after a rough start to spring training. Hafner said he tried to re-establish the approach he used years ago during his prime. However, he felt mentally cluttered because his head moved too much, and he tried to generate too much power from his lower half. Now he drops his right foot early to set into a hitting position, which allows him to track the ball longer.
Sat, 30 Mar 2013 17:35:25 -0700 New York Yankees manager Joe Girardi said the soreness DH Travis Hafner (undisclosed) experienced that caused him to be scratched from the exhibition game Saturday, March 30, is not a big issue.
Sat, 30 Mar 2013 12:38:39 -0700 New York Yankees DH Travis Hafner (undisclosed) was scratched from the team's exhibition game Saturday, March 30, because of soreness.
Mon, 25 Mar 2013 10:11:47 -0700 The New York Yankees plan to have Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim OF Vernon Wells be their starting left fielder to begin the season after a trade is finalized Monday, March 25. The two sides are deciding which minor league players the Angels will receive in the trade before it becomes official. Wells will become the fourth outfielder when OF Curtis Granderson (arm) returns. Wells could split time at designated hitter with DH Travis Hafner, too. Fantasy Tip: This tempers the excitement for Ben Francisco and Brennan Boesch in AL-only leagues. Wells is the better target now as short-term outfield depth.
