Giants | Jake Peavy loses in return to Fenway

Tue, 19 Jul 2016 22:03:21 -0700

San Francisco Giants SP Jake Peavy surrendered four runs on three hits in six innings against the Boston Red Sox on Tuesday, July 19. Peavy walked one and struck out six.

Fantasy Tip: Good news: Peavy allowed only three hits. Bad news: two of them were home runs. The veteran has improved each month following a disastrous April that's still playing havoc with his ratios, but he's pitching well enough these days to be regularly deployed in deeper mixed leagues.

Giants | Jake Peavy pitching well

Mon, 04 Jul 2016 18:46:08 -0700

San Francisco Giants SP Jake Peavy allowed one run on five hits while walking two and striking out six in a win over the Colorado Rockies Monday, July 4, and he is 4-2 with a 2.27 ERA over his last eight outings.

Fantasy Tip: His ERA still sits at 5.04 because of a horrible start to the year, but his recent surge makes him worth a look in NL-only formats.

Giants | Jake Peavy roughed up

Wed, 29 Jun 2016 22:30:56 -0700

San Francisco Giants SP Jake Peavy allowed seven runs -- four earned -- on six hits in 3 1/3 innings against the Oakland Athletics on Wednesday, June 29.

Fantasy Tip: Over his last nine starts, Peavy has allowed two runs or fewer six times, but this is his second really rough outing in that stretch -- he gave up five runs in 1 2/3 innings on May 20 against the Cubs. While Peavy is still a viable starter in deeper mixed leagues, his inconsistency makes him a tough sell in standard formats.

Giants | Jake Peavy rolls to fourth win

Fri, 24 Jun 2016 23:36:43 -0700

San Francisco Giants SP Jake Peavy allowed just two runs on seven hits in seven innings against the Philadelphia Phillies on Friday, June 24. He walked two and struck out four.

Fantasy Tip: Outside of a mini-hiccup against the Cardinals on June 5, Peavy has been in a real groove of late with five quality starts in his last six outings to drop his ERA from an unsightly 8.21 all the way down to 5.22. He's worth owning in deeper mixed leagues now and is becoming a possible addition even in standard setups.

Giants | Jake Peavy sharp again in no-decision

Sun, 19 Jun 2016 14:16:25 -0700

San Francisco Giants SP Jake Peavy turned in the quality start for the fourth time in his last five tries against the Tampa Bay Rays on Sunday, June 19, giving up one run on four hits while matching a season high with eight strikeouts over six frames.

Fantasy Tip: Since getting rocked for five runs in 1 2/3 innings by the Chicago Cubs on May 20, Peavy has lowered his ERA nearly three full runs to 5.47. The offense hasn't always come to the party during his resurgence, however, so he's only 2-1 over that stretch. With that said, he could be an underrated start in all leagues on Friday at home against a struggling Philadelphia Phillies offense.

Giants | San Francisco finalizes weekend rotation

Fri, 17 Jun 2016 14:58:34 -0700

Updating previous reports, San Francisco Giants SPs Albert Suarez and Jake Peavy (neck) will start against the Tampa Bay Rays Saturday, June 18, and Sunday, June 19, respectively.

Fantasy Tip: Tampa Bay isn't a daunting matchup, but Suarez is making just his third career start, and Peavy has been a fantasy nightmare this season. Neither hurler can be started with confidence.

Giants | Jake Peavy not ruled out for Sunday

Fri, 17 Jun 2016 13:52:21 -0700

San Francisco Giants SP Jake Peavy (neck) said he's feeling better and will play catch Friday, June 17. He's not being ruled out for his start Sunday, June 19, yet.

Fantasy Tip: Peavy has had an up-and-down season with an ugly 5.83 ERA, 1.49 WHIP and 6.9 K/9. He's strictly a matchup play in cavernous mixed and NL-only leagues at this stage of his career, and he's likely too risky coming off an injury to rely on if he starts Sunday.

Giants | Jake Peavy OK for next start

Mon, 13 Jun 2016 17:13:20 -0700

San Francisco Giants SP Jake Peavy (neck) should be OK for his next start, according to manager Bruce Bochy.

Fantasy Tip: Peavy had one of his best starts of the season on Sunday night, when he hurled six scoreless innings against the rival Dodgers. He's actually allowed one run or less in three of his last four outings, so owners might want to consider utilizing his services in deeper leagues despite his undesirable numbers on the year.

Giants | Jake Peavy injured, earns 150th win

Sun, 12 Jun 2016 23:11:58 -0700

San Francisco Giants SP Jake Peavy (neck) picked up his 150th career victory Sunday, June 12, as the Giants beat the Los Angeles Dodgers, 2-1. Peavy also strained his sore neck and left the game in the sixth inning.

Fantasy Tip: It has been a struggle at times this season for Peavy, who won for only the third time in nine decisions. Right now, the question is will this neck issue cost Peavy starts in the future. Peavy says he feels all right, but stay tuned to see if he may miss a turn.
