Braves | Rotation in flux

Mon, 14 Jul 2014 14:02:18 -0700

Atlanta Braves SP Ervin Santana will pitch Friday, July 18, the team's first game after the All-Star break, against the Philadelphia Phillies, according to manager Fredi Gonzalez. Gonzalez has not confirmed the rotation after Santana, but said it depends on if SP Julio Teheran will get one or two days of extra rest. Teheran will pitch Saturday, July 19, or Sunday, July 20. Expect left-handed SPs Mike Minor and Alex Wood to be split up in the rotation and not pitch consecutively. Wood and Minor will either pitch the second and fourth or the third and fifth games out of the break. SP Aaron Harang will pitch the fourth or fifth game coming out of the break.

Fantasy Tip: Santana gets an excellent chance to start strong in the second half against the Phillies' weak offense. Otherwise, check back for further details, but the Miami Marlins head to Atlanta Monday, July 21, which is another plus-matchup.

Braves | To trade for reliever?

Mon, 09 Jun 2014 13:54:03 -0700

David O'Brien, of The Atlanta Journal-Constitution, believes the Atlanta Braves will look to trade for at least one relief pitcher in the coming weeks before the trade deadline. Atlanta is reluctant to trade a starting pitcher for a reliever, though, but SPs Aaron Harang or Gavin Floyd may be candidates to be shipped out. Floyd is more likely to be moved because of the way Harang has pitched this year. Also, Floyd has incentives that could raise his deal by $3 or $4 million.

Braves | Alex Wood might be on way out

Wed, 07 May 2014 20:11:01 -0700

While nothing has been made official, the Atlanta Braves will include SP Gavin Floyd in the rotation, meaning someone will be bumped out. SP Alex Wood seems like the most likely candidate to head to the bullpen over SPs Aaron Harang, Mike Minor, Ervin Santana and Julio Teheran.

Braves | Aaron Harang flirts with no-hitter Friday

Sat, 19 Apr 2014 11:47:00 -0700

Atlanta Braves SP Aaron Harang tossed seven no-hit innings against the New York Mets Friday, April 18, but was removed from the game by manager Fredi Gonzalez because he had thrown 121 pitches. "I want him pitching 27 more times," Gonzalez said. "If it was the ninth inning, maybe, think about it. It gets to the point you chase that no-hitter, chase that dragon, you're up to 140 pitches. I think we made the right decision." Harang walked six batters and struck out five, while improving to 3-1 on the season.

Braves | Aaron Harang signing

Mon, 24 Mar 2014 16:10:07 -0700

The Atlanta Braves are signing free-agent SP Aaron Harang (Indians) to an undisclosed deal.

Fantasy Tip: Harang's signing is clearly a starting pitching depth move. You can ignore him unless you're in a deep NL-only league and he winds up in the rotation.
