Phillies | PHI may shop for fifth starter

Tue, 31 Mar 2015 00:08:56 -0700

The Philadelphia Phillies may look outside the organization for a fifth starter to complement SPs Cole Hamels, Aaron Harang, David Buchanan and Jerome Williams. Names tossed about include free-agent SP Jhoulys Chacin (Rockies), free-agent SP Scott Baker (Yankees) and free-agent SP Felix Doubront (Cubs).

Fantasy Tip: It may be worth a pick towards the last few rounds of deep NL drafts depending on who wins the job. Stay tuned.

Phillies | Aaron Harang scratched from start

Fri, 13 Mar 2015 12:58:21 -0700

Philadelphia Phillies SP Aaron Harang (back) was scratched from his start Friday, March 13, because he had lower back discomfort. The team said was precautionary, and Harang is considered day-to-day.

Fantasy Tip: Harang tossed 25 quality starts through his 33 starts and returned 12 wins, 161 strikeouts and a 3.57 ERA and a 1.40 WHIP over 204 1/3 innings last season. While they're respectable numbers, banking on Harang as anything more than a low-end spot starter in mixed leagues is ill-advised. Even in NL-only formats, Harang has minimal fantasy value.

I was really having to force things. I went out there and felt good today," Harang said.

Braves | Rotation in flux

Mon, 14 Jul 2014 14:02:18 -0700

Atlanta Braves SP Ervin Santana will pitch Friday, July 18, the team's first game after the All-Star break, against the Philadelphia Phillies, according to manager Fredi Gonzalez. Gonzalez has not confirmed the rotation after Santana, but said it depends on if SP Julio Teheran will get one or two days of extra rest. Teheran will pitch Saturday, July 19, or Sunday, July 20. Expect left-handed SPs Mike Minor and Alex Wood to be split up in the rotation and not pitch consecutively. Wood and Minor will either pitch the second and fourth or the third and fifth games out of the break. SP Aaron Harang will pitch the fourth or fifth game coming out of the break.

Fantasy Tip: Santana gets an excellent chance to start strong in the second half against the Phillies' weak offense. Otherwise, check back for further details, but the Miami Marlins head to Atlanta Monday, July 21, which is another plus-matchup.

Braves | To trade for reliever?

Mon, 09 Jun 2014 13:54:03 -0700

David O'Brien, of The Atlanta Journal-Constitution, believes the Atlanta Braves will look to trade for at least one relief pitcher in the coming weeks before the trade deadline. Atlanta is reluctant to trade a starting pitcher for a reliever, though, but SPs Aaron Harang or Gavin Floyd may be candidates to be shipped out. Floyd is more likely to be moved because of the way Harang has pitched this year. Also, Floyd has incentives that could raise his deal by $3 or $4 million.

Tue, 13 May 2014 18:10:12 -0700

Braves | Alex Wood might be on way out

Wed, 07 May 2014 20:11:01 -0700

While nothing has been made official, the Atlanta Braves will include SP Gavin Floyd in the rotation, meaning someone will be bumped out. SP Alex Wood seems like the most likely candidate to head to the bullpen over SPs Aaron Harang, Mike Minor, Ervin Santana and Julio Teheran.
