New York Mets manager Terry Collins was ready to replace RP Frank Francisco with RP Jon Rauch in the ninth inning Monday, May 14, if one more batter would have reached base. Francisco gave up two hits, a walk and a run while nailing down the save, but he's given up 22 hits and eight walks in 14 2/3 innings this year.

New York Mets RP Jon Rauch allowed a hit with a strikeout while retiring just one batter Saturday, April 21, against the San Francisco Giants. He was actually credited with a blown save, but he picked up the relief win. He has not allowed an earned run in 8 1/3 innings, but he did not want to talk about possibly replacing the struggling RP Frank Francisco as closer. "I'm not part of the conversation so I can't answer that question," Rauch said.

New York Mets SP Jonathon Niese, RP Bobby Parnell and RP Jon Rauch combined on only the Mets' second shutout at Citizens Bank Park since the ballpark opened in 2004. The other came Aug. 7, 2010. Niese allowed five hits and a walk with five strikeouts over 6 2/3 scoreless innings as he moved to 2-0 and lowered his ERA to 2.13.

New York Mets manager Terry Collins informed RP Jon Rauch that he might be used for an out in the seventh inning, then continue on in the eighth in relief. And while the manager typically will double-switch in those situations, he told Rauch to prepare this spring to bat once in a while during the season. Rauch has just two hits in 21 career at-bats, but he has one home run off former SP Roger Clemens, then of the Houston Astros, when Rauch was a member of the Montreal Expos.
