Twins | MIN still interested in Rafael Soriano

Sun, 26 Apr 2015 12:22:19 -0700

The Minnesota Twins have checked in recently on free-agent RP Rafael Soriano (Nationals).

Fantasy Tip: Soriano, the top free-agent reliever available in free agency, is currently working out in the Dominican Republic as he awaits an opportunity to return to the majors. However, the Twins' interest in him is curious since it doesn't appear as though they'll be contenders this season.

Tigers | Rafael Soriano on Detroit's radar

Fri, 24 Apr 2015 08:24:48 -0700

Free-agent RP Rafael Soriano (Nationals) is on the Detroit Tigers' radar.

Fantasy Tip: The Tigers just lost Joe Nathan (elbow) for the season, and Soriano makes sense. Joakim Soria is a capable closer, but he's not the same dominant pitcher he was in KC. Soriano has little fantasy value unless he snatches a closer role.

Reds | Rafael Soriano not an option for CIN

Thu, 16 Apr 2015 12:51:54 -0700

Free-agent RP Rafael Soriano (Nationals) has not been contacted by the Cincinnati Reds at this time, and his agent has not contacted the team, according to general manager Walt Jocketty. Jocketty said he believes it would be too expensive to sign Soriano.

Fantasy Tip: Soriano is the top reliever available, but the Reds to not appear interested in him at this point. Soriano may need to become a setup man for a team if he is not able to find a closer job. Soriano likely would not have a lot of fantasy value unless he is a closer.

Tigers | DET interested in Rafael Soriano?

Sun, 12 Apr 2015 12:43:21 -0700

The Detroit Tigers have reportedly been monitoring the workouts of free-agent RP Rafael Soriano (Nationals).

Fantasy Tip: Soriano remains the last big-name reliever available in free agency. Detroit has already seen two key members of their bullpen placed on the disabled list (Joe Nathan and Bruce Rondon), so the fact that they appear to be keeping tabs on him isn't surprising.

Twins | MIN has some interest in Rafael Soriano

Sun, 29 Mar 2015 11:17:43 -0700

Updating a previous report, a Minnesota Twins official said the club has limited interest in free-agent RP Rafael Soriano (Nationals). The official added that they "might" watch him if he decides to throw for teams.

Fantasy Tip: If the Twins sign him, he could be a secondary closing option to the injury-prone Glen Perkins, which would give him some fantasy value in AL-only and deep mixed leagues.

Twins | Rafael Soriano an option for Twins?

Fri, 27 Mar 2015 14:25:29 -0700

Free-agent RP Rafael Soriano (Nationals) is drawing interest from the Minnesota Twins, and they have inquired about watching him throw, according to a source.

Fantasy Tip: If Soriano landed with the Twins, he'd likely be a secondary closing option to Glen Perkins, who has dealt with injury this spring. Soriano doesn't have much fantasy value at all unless he's closing, though.

Marlins | MIA cooling on Rafael Soriano

Fri, 27 Feb 2015 04:48:44 -0800

Free-agent RP Rafael Soriano (Nationals) will not likely be pursued by the Miami Marlins, at least not with a major league contract.

Fantasy Tip: Several clubs have been linked to Soriano, whose ratio (19 walks, 59 strikeouts) could help fantasy owners in leagues where ratio is one of the categories. Still, it's best to see where Soriano lands as his fantasy value is non-existent at the moment.

Dodgers | LA won't rush to acquire closer

Wed, 18 Feb 2015 15:52:02 -0800

Los Angeles Dodgers RP Kenley Jansen (foot) will be out roughly eight to 12 weeks after having surgery on his left foot, but president of baseball operations Andrew Friedman hinted that the team won't rush to acquire a free-agent closer because Jansen's absence is short term. Free-agent RPs Francisco Rodriguez (Brewers) and Rafael Soriano (Nationals) are currently available.

Fantasy Tip: Jansen will drop a bit in your fantasy baseball closer rankings now that he'll likely miss a month of the season. However, he can still post top-tier closer numbers if that's all he'll miss. In the meantime, expect L.A. to go with either Joel Peralta or J.P. Howell in the ninth to open the season. If you're speculating for early-season saves avenues late in your draft, Peralta should be your choice here.

Dodgers | L.A. interested in Rafael Soriano?

Tue, 17 Feb 2015 19:54:55 -0800

The Los Angeles Dodgers will reportedly check in with free-agent RP Rafael Soriano (Nationals) after RP Kenley Jansen (foot) needed surgery on his left foot to remove a growth. He will be out eight to 12 weeks.

Fantasy Tip: Soriano has plenty of closing experience, but his fantasy outlook would be much better pitching with an organization he has a chance to close games on a regular basis, not just a couple of weeks to a month or so.
