Orioles | Johan Santana's comeback bid stopped

Baltimore Orioles SP Johan Santana (Achilles') suffered a torn Achilles' tendon during his extended spring start Friday, June 6, and he'll miss the rest of the year.

Fantasy Tip: You have to feel for Santana, who was close to starting a stint in the minors before possibly joining the O's rotation. If you were stashing him in a deep AL-only league, you can forget about that now.

Orioles | Plan set for Johan Santana

Wed, 28 May 2014 18:08:29 -0700

Updating a previous report, the Baltimore Orioles have laid out a plan for the return of SP Johan Santana (shoulder). The plan has not been agreed upon yet. He would pitch June 2 in extended spring training, make another start June 8 for Triple-A Norfolk and then a final rehab outing with Double-A Bowie June 13. Barring any setbacks, he might return to the majors by June 18.

Fantasy Tip: It's uncertain if Santana will go for that, as he has an opt-out clause June 1. However, this sounds like his best avenue to the majors in a short amount of time, so he might want to take it. As far as fantasy value, he has plenty of prove before fantasy owners can rely upon him again.
