Sat, 06 Apr 2013 16:15:59 -0700 The New York Mets have transferred SP Johan Santana (shoulder) from the 15-day disabled list to the 60-day disabled list.
Tue, 02 Apr 2013 10:22:46 -0700 New York Mets SP Johan Santana (shoulder) underwent left shoulder surgery Tuesday, April 2, for the second time in 31 months. The procedure was to fix a tear in the capsule in the front of his left shoulder, and he'll miss the entire season for the second time in the last three years. The Mets still owe Santana $31 million from his $137.5 million, six-year deal. Fantasy Tip: This will be an extremely long and arduous rehab for Santana to come back a second time from the same injury. It's difficult for pitchers to come back from this procedure once, let alone twice. Don't expect him to be very productive if he does make it back at some point next season. Jeremy Hefner will now get a chance to prove he belongs in the team's starting rotation.
Mon, 01 Apr 2013 07:11:48 -0700 New York Mets SP Shaun Marcum (neck), SP Johan Santana (shoulder), RP Jenrry Mejia (elbow) and RP Frank Francisco (elbow) were placed on the 15-day disabled list.
Sat, 30 Mar 2013 11:27:13 -0700 Updating previous reports, New York Mets SP Johan Santana (shoulder) will undergo surgery Tuesday, April 2.
Fri, 29 Mar 2013 15:28:23 -0700 New York Mets SP Johan Santana (shoulder) is determined to make another comeback after re-tearing his shoulder capsule, according to a source familiar with his thinking. He is leaning toward having a second surgery to fix his arm, but he'll spend the weekend going over all of his options. Fantasy Tip: It's tough enough as a pitcher to come back from this particular surgery the first time. Doing it twice is unprecedented. Don't expect Santana to be fantasy-useful if he can return from this.
Fri, 29 Mar 2013 13:46:30 -0700 New York Mets SP Johan Santana (shoulder) is still weighing his options regarding another shoulder surgery, and a final decision isn't expected until after the weekend.
Fri, 29 Mar 2013 12:06:43 -0700 New York Mets general manager Sandy Alderson said SP Johan Santana's no-hitter in which he tossed 134 pitches last June is in no way related to his recent shoulder injury. Santana re-tore the shoulder capsule in his left arm this spring. He had an 8.27 ERA over the last 10 starts of his 2012 season before going on the disabled list for good. Fantasy Tip: Although he hasn't made a final decision, assume that Santana's season and likely his career, are over.
Thu, 28 Mar 2013 16:23:23 -0700 New York Mets general manager Sandy Alderson said that he thinks SP Johan Santana's (shoulder) contract is not insured. The team will owe him $25.5 million this year and a $5.5 million buyout for the 2014 season.
Thu, 28 Mar 2013 15:42:24 -0700 New York Mets SP Johan Santana (shoulder) may have a re-tear of his left shoulder capsule after going to New York to be seen by Dr. David Altchek Wednesday, March 27. Fantasy Tip: Santana is mulling his options right now, but it looks likely that he'll need a second surgery to fix the same problem. This is crushing news for the lefty, and there is a good chance that this could end his career. Jeremy Hefner is filling in in the rotation, so if he pitches well, he could stick. Zack Wheeler could also be brought up sooner than expected.
Wed, 27 Mar 2013 12:09:09 -0700 The New York Mets are not ready to place SP Johan Santana (shoulder) on the 60-day disabled list, according to a team insider. Santana would not count toward the 40-man roster if he was on the 60-day DL. Also, the 60-day DL cannot be backdated like the 15-day DL can.
