St. Louis Cardinals SP John Lackey said he will honor his contract even though he is only scheduled to make around $550,000 in 2015. "It would have been a harder decision other places, for sure, but this is definitely somewhere I wanted to be, and I'm excited about it," Lackey said.

St. Louis Cardinals SP John Lackey will start Sunday, August 3, against the Milwaukee Brewers, according to manager Mike Matheny.
Fantasy Tip: Lackey should get a boost in fantasy value with his relocation to the National League. However, Sunday's start won't be the easiest introduction to the NL Central. Strategically benching Lackey Sunday isn't out of the question.

The Boston Red Sox acquired OF Allen Craig and SP Joe Kelly from the St. Louis Cardinals Thursday, July 31, in exchange for SP John Lackey.
Fantasy Tip: Well then. Craig has been a former shell of himself this year, but the move to Boston could spark a turnaround in a more hitter-friendly environment. He'll also see more consistent playing time in Beantown. Kelly hasn't excited since his return from the DL, and he won't be any more intriguing with the move to the AL East.
Back in St. Louis, the departure of Craig opens up everyday PT for Oscar Taveras. Everyday at-bats should be good for the youngster, and it could elevate his play to levels that we've expected of him. He should be owned everywhere now.

The St. Louis Cardinals have acquired SP John Lackey from the Boston Red Sox. It is not known what the Red Sox will receive in return.
Fantasy Tip: The addition of Lackey may mean that Michael Wacha (shoulder) may not be ready when the team hoped, and the team may prefer Carlos Martinez in the bullpen. Lackey should see some value increase because of his move to the National League. Owners in NL-only leagues can look to add him off waivers when they can.

The Kansas City Royals are pursuing New York Mets SP Bartolo Colon, Boston Red Sox SP John Lackey and San Diego Padres SP Ian Kennedy.
Fantasy Tip: They're also investigating A.J. Burnett. A move to Kansas City's park would be positive for any of these three, but the offense won't boost their chances for run support and wins that much.
