The Detroit Lions will host the 2008 Draft Party at Lucky Strike Lanes Saturday, April 26, from 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. The party will feature games, prizes and appearances by Lions alumni and current players. Jeff Darlington, reporting for the Sporting News, reports by signing FB Cory Schlesinger, head coach Cam Cameron believes the Miami Dolphins have created a potentially potent combination that could eventually compare to the San Diego Chargers deadly duo of RB LaDainian Tomlinson and FB Lorenzo Neal. By giving Dolphins RB Ronnie Brown a blocker like Schlesinger to clear holes for him, it could allow the former second-overall pick to finally begin showing the skills Miami expected to see from him in his first two seasons. Schlesinger, a 13-year veteran, is one of the best blockers in the league.

Cotsonika, of the Detroit Free Press, reports Detroit Lions FB Cory Schlesinger said the team's offseason program was the most demanding he had experienced in his 12 years with the Lions and player participation was excellent. "I think the fact that we've stunk it up for the last five years could have something to do with it," said Schlesinger, with a rare chuckle over the Lions' NFL-worst 21-59 record from 2001-05. "I think players realize that. That's why everybody's here." Schlesinger said the Lions had done so much learning this offseason that they would be able to do more reacting instead of thinking in camp.

The Detroit Free Press reports Detroit Lions team president Matt Millen said the Lions didn't have a "traditional fullback role" in the team's new offense. "Every now and then it shows up, but it's not going to be like that all the time," he said. But asked if there was still a place for longtime Lions FB Cory Schlesinger, he said: "Oh, yeah. Absolutely." What that place is has yet to be determined, however. "That role really gets defined when we put the pads on," Millen said. "That's when Cory defines himself."
