Two New York Mets team officials said minor league P C.J. Nitkowski is a possibility to join the parent club when rosters expand next month. "He is certainly in the conversation," one of the officials said. "If he keeps doing what he's doing, he'll be up." Nitkowski, who last pitched in the majors in 2005, has thrown 10 1/3 combined scoreless innings between Double-A Binghamton and Triple-A Norfolk.

Free-agent RP C.J. Nitkowski (Nationals) has re-surfaced, signing a minor-league deal Friday, July 13, with the New York Mets. The team will assign him to Double-A Binghamton. "I haven't pitched in AA in 17 yrs but you take an opportunity when it presents itself & run with it. This is it, last shot. Thank you @Mets," Nitkowski posted on his official Twitter account. The veteran hasn't appeared in the major leagues since 2005 with the Washington Nationals, and he last pitched professionally in 2010 in South Korea.

Former MLB RP C.J. Nitkowski, currently pitching in the Korean League, was interviewed nearly two weeks ago by federal agents to determine if free-agent SP Roger Clemens was committing perjury after he denied using performance-enhancing drugs, according to The Associated Press. Nitkowski never played with Clemens, but worked out alongside him and New York Yankees SP Andy Pettitte, as well as Brian McNamee, at Clemens' home in Houston. He said he willingly answered all of the FBI's questions, but claimed he didn't have much to offer because he had never seen either player use performance-enhancing drugs.
