The Chicago Cubs signed free-agent RP Mike MacDougal (Dodgers) to a minor league deal Tuesday, May 15, and assigned him to Triple-A Iowa. He had a 7.94 ERA in seven outings with four strikeouts and six walks with the Los Angeles Dodgers this year.

Los Angeles Dodgers manager Don Mattingly is confident in his team's bullpen heading into spring training. "We don't have an established closer in (RP Jonathan Broxton), but he was coming off a rough year," Mattingly said. "We have a combination of guys. (RP Javy Guerra) didn't do anything wrong after taking over for Brox. We've got (RP Kenley Jansen) knocking on the door. And we've got (RP Mike MacDougal) back, a veteran who has closed before, to go with the two young guys."

Updating a previous item, the Los Angeles Dodgers re-signed RP Mike MacDougal to a one-year, $1 million deal Thursday, Jan. 5. The deal includes a 2013 club option. He will make $650,000 this year. The 2013 option is worth $2.35 million with a $350,000 buyout.
