Marlins | Jeff Baker pushes hit streak to double digits

Fri, 25 Jul 2014 21:34:10 -0700

Miami Marlins INF Jeff Baker went 1-for-4 with a strikeout Friday, July 25, against the Houston Astros, and that was good enough to push his hitting streak to 10 games.

Fantasy Tip: Baker is actually tied for the longest active hitting streak in the National League. He is a solid value in daily fantasy salary cap formats while he is hitting. Baker is hitting .444 (12-for-27) during the impressive run.

Dodgers | Yasiel Puig day to day

Mon, 05 May 2014 00:33:21 -0700

The Los Angeles Dodgers may be without OF Yasiel Puig (head) for at least one game, maybe more, after a collision with the right-field wall. Puig leapt into a padded support post in the right-field corner, nearly coming away with Miami Marlins 1B Jeff Baker's game-winning double with two out in the ninth inning. He missed making a spectacular catch by inches, then fell in a heap to the warning track where he remained for several minutes before walking off the field with his left arm draped around the shoulder of head trainer Stan Conte. The team said he hit the left side of his head and lower leg on the fence and was examined by a doctor. A concussion test was negative and Puig is officially listed as day to day.

Marlins | Likely to open with platoon at 2B

Thu, 27 Mar 2014 10:19:57 -0700

The Miami Marlins are expected to open with a platoon at second base to start the year, with 2B Rafael Furcal (hamstring) likely to open on the disabled list. 2B Derek Dietrich would start against right-handed pitchers, with 2B Jeff Baker in the lineup against lefties. Furcal is expected to be placed on the DL retroactive to March 21, meaning he could return at April 5, at the earliest.

Fantasy Tip: Dietrich and Baker aren't worth looking at in pretty much all leagues, especially since Furcal could be back rather quickly.

Marlins | Rafael Furcal likely headed for DL

Mon, 24 Mar 2014 13:51:29 -0700

Miami Marlins 2B Rafael Furcal (hamstring) would like to start the year on the disabled list if he's not 100 percent by opening day. He went 2-for-4 with two singles in a minor league game Monday, March 24, but wasn't running at full speed on the bases. It appears more likely that he'll open on the DL, but he could return as soon as April 5. INFs Derek Dietrich, Ed Lucas, Donovan Solano and Jeff Baker can fill in for Furcal at second base.

Fantasy Tip: Are you surprised by Furcal's injury this early in the season? You shouldn't be. The Marlins will likely have to mix and match at the keystone if Furcal continues to be bothered by injuries. This position should be ignored for fantasy purposes in Miami.

Thu, 13 Feb 2014 19:36:34 -0800
