Cubs | Jeff Baker gets another start

Tue, 10 Apr 2012 21:48:30 -0700

Chicago Cubs 2B Jeff Baker made another start at first base Tuesday, April 10, against the Milwaukee Brewers. "I'm going to get Baker in there as much as possible," manager Dale Sveum said. "He swings the bat too good against left-handers to get him out of there. You try to get (1B Bryan LaHair) at-bats and get him accustomed, but (LaHair) didn't swing too well against left-handers in spring training. I've got to get Baker's bat in there as much as I possibly can." Baker was 0-for-2 with a sacrifice fly, walk and stolen base.

Cubs | Bryan LaHair to return Sunday

Thu, 05 Apr 2012 12:14:19 -0700

Chicago Cubs 1B Bryan LaHair (back) is scheduled to return to the lineup Sunday, April 8, after dealing with a bulging disc in his back. "It's just such a minor thing, but it's something I couldn't prevent - it's like a nerve thing," said LaHair, who blamed an impingement for the pain in his back and leg. "The nerve settled down now and the pain is pretty much out, and now it's just getting back into the feel of things. I should be back in there this weekend." 2B Jeff Baker replaced LaHair at first base on opening day Thursday, April 5.

Cubs | Bryan LaHair has roster spot

Wed, 22 Feb 2012 14:06:50 -0800

Chicago Cubs 1B Bryan LaHair enters camp as the starting first baseman, even after the team traded for 1B Anthony Rizzo in the offseason. "There's always a chance of somebody coming into spring training, there's always that guy who lights things up," manager Dale Sveum said, "but I think right now, we're committed to LaHair being our first baseman." 2B Jeff Baker could be used as the backup to LaHair or on days when the team faces a tough lefty.

LaHair has added a workout program to his routine in order to try and increase his speed, agility and balance. He said he is also much more mentally strong than in past seasons.
