The Houston Astros had OFs Travis Buck, Justin Ruggiano and J.B. Shuck outplay OF Jack Cust (elbow) during the spring. Cust was limited to 25 at-bats, and he had just one hit during the spring. He was also unable to play the outfield due to discomfort in his left elbow. "The thing with Cust, we weren't able to use him in the outfield all of spring, really," manager Bradley Mills said. "He got to play a couple of innings of a 'B' game out there, and the bat wasn't there and (it wasn't) what we had hoped."

Houston Astros OF Jack Cust (elbow) was originally scheduled to start in a minor league game Friday, March 23, in the outfield, but he was moved to designated hitter due to his balky left elbow. He has yet to make an appearance in a Grapefruit League game in the outfield.

Houston Astros OF Brian Bogusevic is being listed as the favorite to win the starting right field job this spring. OFs Travis Buck, J.B. Shuck and Jack Cust are all competing for the job with Bogusevic.

Houston Astros OF Jack Cust (knee) tweaked his right knee Tuesday, Feb. 28, and was held out of baserunning sprints. "He bent over for a ball and felt something in the back of his knee and the trainers didn't want him to run on it," manager Bradley Mills said. "I talked to him and he doesn't think it's that bad."

Houston Astros OF Brian Bogusevic will get a long look in center field this spring, and he'll compete with OFs Jordan Schafer and Jason Bourgeois for the starting job there. "His ability gives him the opportunity to be able to play center or right, but we want this guy to step up and be an everyday starter for us and there's no reason he won't be able to," manager Bradley Mills said of Bogusevic. "We all saw what he can do at times last year." OF Jack Cust, 1B Jonathan Singleton and INFs Matt Downs and Brian Bixler will also see time in the outfield.
