Padres.MLB.com reports the San Diego Padres signed C Luis Martinez, the team's 2007 12th-round draft pick. Financial terms were not disclosed.

Spencer Fordin, of Baltimore.Orioles.MLB.com, reports the Baltimore Orioles worked out P Luis Martinez Tuesday, March 27, and hope to sign him. Martinez has not pitched in the majors since 2004, although he spent 2005 as a reliever in Japan.

According to The Washington Post, seven players failed to reach camp Feb. 13 because of visa problems, including six pitchers (Jesus Colome, Felix Diaz, Anastacio Martinez, Luis Martinez, Arnie Munoz and Eduardo Valdez) and C Juan Brito. None is on the 40-man roster.
