Cincinnati Reds 1B Joey Votto (quadriceps) was placed on the 15-day disabled list with a strained left quadriceps. C/1B Brayan Pena was activated from the paternity list.
Fantasy Tip: Todd Frazier is playing first base Tuesday, July 8, with Ramon Santiago at the hot corner. Jay Bruce started at first base Monday, July 7, with Ryan Ludwick and Skip Schumaker in the corner outfield spots. Expect a rotation with Chris Heisey also involved in the short term if they decide to go that route, but the Santiago elevation to the lineup is more likely. All of these subs are desperation NL-only assets.

Cincinnati Reds manager Bryan Price said he will continue to use a platoon of OFs Ryan Ludwick, Skip Schumaker and Chris Heisey in left field for a while. Schumaker is starting in left Tuesday, June 3, but Price said it's his preference for Ludwick to do something to earn the starting job back.
Fantasy Tip: Until we see Ludwick get more time in left field, he shouldn't be an option for standard mixed league rosters. Schumaker and Heisey are only worth owning in NL-only leagues, too.

Cincinnati Reds OF Ryan Ludwick (quadriceps) has not started the past two games due to discomfort in his quadriceps muscle. "He's got just a little bit of discomfort in the top of his quad," manager Bryan Price said Tuesday, May 20. "It's enough where we didn't want to run him around in the outfield. He hit yesterday, he could have played yesterday, he could have played today."

Updating a previous item, Cincinnati Reds OF Ryan Ludwick (toe) returned to the lineup Sunday, April 20, after missing Saturday's game after fouling a ball off his big toe Friday. Ludwick went 2-for-4 with a double and an RBI. It was thought Ludwick would miss a few games. "It was pretty painful for 24 hours," Reds manager Bryan Price said. "He could have pinch hit (Saturday). They did a lot of therapy on it. It's better – good enough to play. He's done everything he needs to do, run, cut."

Cincinnati Reds OF Ryan Ludwick (shoulder) iced down his left throwing shoulder after five innings of spring action Tuesday, March 4, like he usually does, but he did not have to ice his surgically repaired non-throwing shoulder. "I haven't iced it all spring. That's how good it feels," Ludwick said. "I haven't been in the training room, except for stretching it. I feel great. It's not aching. Let's knock on wood to keep it that way." He tore the labrum in his right shoulder on opening day last season and missed four months to rehab from surgery.
Fantasy Tip: Ludwick is getting a little long in the tooth, but he can still be a cheap source of power late on draft day. In mixed formats, he is still worth a late-round pick, but he will likely be a middle- to late-round selection in most NL-only formats.

The Cincinnati Reds activated OF Ryan Ludwick (shoulder) from the 60-day disabled list Sunday, Aug. 11. He is expected to return to action Monday, Aug. 12. The team optioned OF Derrick Robinson to Triple-A Louisville in the corresponding roster move. Ludwick has been sidelined since Opening Day due to a shoulder injury.
Fantasy Tip: With Ludwick back in action, it's bad news for Chris Heisey, who will see less playing time. Ludwick might be a forgotten man in fantasy leagues, and could be a cheap source of power down the stretch. You might want to keep him reserved for at least a week while he knocks off the rust, however. He managed just six hits in 44 at-bats during his minor-league rehab assignment.
