Boston Red Sox RP Bobby Jenks was arrested Thursday, March 22, and charged with one count of driving under the influence; three counts of driving under the influence and damage to property; and one count of leaving the scene of a crash involving damage to property.

The Boston Red Sox will investigate the situation surrounding RP Bobby Jenks' (back) emergency surgery in December to correct a failed procedure. Jenks said "there was an error" when he first had surgery to remove bone spurs from his spine Dec. 12. That surgery was done by Dr. Kirkham Wood. "The third one was started and not finished. So basically there was a serrated edge that sliced me open in two different spots and I was leaking spinal fluid," Jenks said.

Updating a previous item, Boston Red Sox RP Bobby Jenks (back) has lost around 30 to 40 pounds after having multiple emergency surgeries in the offseason. "Enough," Jenks said. "Basically from the middle of last season until December, I had nothing to do but work out, so that's all I did. I popped a movie on during the winter for the kids and would just sit behind the couch and ride the bike all day."

Boston Red Sox RP Bobby Jenks (back) has lost plenty of weight after a second emergency surgery was performed to stop spinal-fluid leakage in his back in December. "The worst part about it was having the two surgeries so close together," Jenks said. "Everything was barely healing and we had to slice through it all over again. The second one was very, very painful. After the first one, at the two-and-a-half-week mark, I was feeling great. Everything was on track to where it was supposed to be and then that happened. The second one, my muscles were all torn open and I was basically laid up in bed and couldn't function." He is trying to strengthen his back but is only performing light workouts at this time. The team is hoping to have Jenks back around midseason.

Updating previous reports, Boston Red Sox RP Bobby Jenks (back) had to have an emergency surgery Dec. 30 due to a spinal infection from his first back surgery. The infection could have gone to his brain, and his people are considering legal action.

Boston Red Sox manager Bobby Valentine said RP Bobby Jenks (back) will not throw in spring training, but Valentine is hopeful Jenks will pitch this year. Also, SP Daisuke Matsuzaka (elbow) is not expected to pitch in any games this spring.

Updating previous reports, Boston Red Sox RP Bobby Jenks (back) had a decompression procedure on his back Dec. 12, and recently had another procedure to remove more bone fragments from his back. The normal recovery time is eight weeks, which means Jenks is unlikely to be ready for the start of spring training.
