With the threat of re-signing OF Nelson Cruz (Orioles) now having passed, 1B Mitch Moreland is in line to serve as the primary designated hitter for manager Ron Washington. "I'm just going out there and playing today and trying to get better," Moreland said. Washington is also expected to use the DH spot to rotate some veterans like 1B Prince Fielder, OF Shin-Soo Choo, 3B Adrian Beltre and OF Alex Rios for partial rest.

Texas Rangers general manager Jon Daniels said Wednesday, Feb. 19, that the team remains open to re-signing free-agent OF Nelson Cruz (Rangers), if the price was right. "We've touched base every week or so," Daniels said. "Nellie's highly regarded here. We have a good relationship with (his agent). We made our moves (for 1B Prince Fielder and OF Shin-Soo Choo) and kind of expected (Cruz) to sign elsewhere. But we'll see where it goes. It's a unique situation for him as a free agent."

Texas Rangers manager Ron Washington plans to have OF Shin-Soo Choo batting first in the starting lineup this season. Choo would be followed by SS Elvis Andrus, 1B Prince Fielder, 3B Adrian Beltre, OF Alex Rios, DH Mitch Moreland, C Geovany Soto, 2B Jurickson Profar and OF Leonys Martin.

Texas Rangers 1B Prince Fielder will bat ahead of 3B Adrian Beltre in the lineup for 2014, with Fielder going third and Beltre fourth. Columnist Gerry Fraley speculates OF Shin-Soo Choo will bat leadoff. The second slot in the lineup was not disclosed by manager Ron Washington.
Fantasy Tip: A combination of a shorter right-field porch at The Ballpark in Arlington and hitting ahead of Adrian Beltre could help Fielder regain what seemed to be a lost stroke in 2013. You have to wonder if his personal issues (divorce) may have spilled over onto the diamond, and if he is past those issues Fielder could be gangbusters in 2014.

The Tampa Bay Rays appear to have interest in Texas Rangers 1B Mitch Moreland, who may be expendable following the trade for 1B Prince Fielder from the Detroit Tigers. It is thought the Rays might want to trade SP David Price, and the Rangers have expressed interest.

Texas Rangers 1B Prince Fielder will be the team's primary first baseman, and the team is still trying to determine 1B Mitch Moreland's role. SS Jurickson Profar can now move to second base full time with 2B Ian Kinsler gone. Manager Ron Washington hasn't decided on where Fielder will hit in the lineup yet, but he wants to leave 3B Adrian Beltre in the cleanup spot.

Updating a previous report, the Detroit Tigers trade 1B Prince Fielder and $30 million to the Texas Rangers for 2B Ian Kinsler. Fielder is still owed $138 million over seven years, so the Tigers will help pay some of the remaining deal.

The Detroit Tigers and Texas Rangers have agreed on a trade which sends 1B Prince Fielder to the Rangers for 2B Ian Kinsler, pending a physical, CBSSports.com learned Wednesday, Nov. 20. There might be another player involved in the deal, but that has not been confirmed. Fielder has a $214 million contract, and it is uncertain if any cash will be changing hands to help the Rangers pay that contract. Fielder has a limited no-trade clause that includes the Rangers, but it is believed he is willing to accept the deal.
Fantasy Tip: Fielder and Kinsler remain must-start fantasy options, but Kinsler might slip ever so slightly moving to a more spacious ballpark for half of his games. Jurickson Profar will be a regular in the lineup in Arlington, and he might even be a little bit overvalued by fantasy owners with a clear path. Still, he is worth a roster spot in most fantasy formats because he is a middle infielder with a ton of upside.
Miguel Cabrera or perhaps even Victor Martinez presumably will take over at first base, although it is possible the Tigers could still make additional moves to shore up the position. Nick Castellanos could also find a more regular role now, either at third base or as the designated hitter.

Los Angeles Dodgers 1B Adrian Gonzalez collected his 100th RBI of the season Friday, Sept. 27, against the Colorado Rockies. He joined Detroit Tigers 1B Prince Fielder and 3B Miguel Cabrera as the only players to drive in at least 100 runs in six of the last seven seasons.
