Tue, 09 Aug 2016 20:20:47 -0700

Texas Rangers 1B Prince Fielder (neck) is expected to announce his retirement on Wednesday, Aug. 10, as doctors will not medically clear him to resume his career after suffering herniated discs in his neck. He hasn't played since July 18.

Rangers | Prince Fielder to have surgery Friday

Wed, 27 Jul 2016 15:26:00 -0700

Texas Rangers 1B Prince Fielder (neck) will have season-ending fusion surgery Friday, July 29.

Fantasy Tip: This is the second time in his three years with the Rangers that Fielder has required a season-ending operation on his neck. It's unfortunate, especially after the slugging first baseman won the Most Improved Player award last season, but now having to go through another neck surgery, it'll be hard to invest in him in fantasy next season. Hopefully he's able to come back strong like he did a year ago.

Rangers | Prince Fielder out for the season

Mon, 25 Jul 2016 15:58:14 -0700

Texas Rangers 1B Prince Fielder (neck) will undergo season-ending surgery.

Fantasy Tip: Fielder can be replaced in all seasonal leagues. Jurickson Profar and Mitch Moreland will receive a decent to significant fantasy boost with more playing time ahead. Joey Gallo is also a player to watch because of his power potential.

Rangers | Neck surgery likely for Prince Fielder

Mon, 25 Jul 2016 14:20:47 -0700

Texas Rangers 1B Prince Fielder (neck) is expected to undergo neck surgery later this week.

Fantasy Tip: While there isn't a definitive timeline for his absence and return at this point, it doesn't sound good for Fielder bouncing back this season. In fact, his season could be finished. Don't make any hasty roster moves just yet, but be prepared to be without Fielder for the remainder of 2016. Jurickson Profar and Mitch Moreland will receive a decent to significant fantasy boost, and Joey Gallo is a player to watch because of his power potential. Stay tuned for updates.

Rangers | Prince Fielder's exam pushed back

Fri, 22 Jul 2016 10:19:47 -0700

Texas Rangers 1B Prince Fielder's (neck) exam has been moved to Monday, July 25, instead of taking place Friday, July 22.

Fantasy Tip: Fielder's scheduled for a doctor's visit that will determine whether or not he needs season-ending surgery. At this point, it's looking like the declining first baseman won't be a factor for the remainder of the campaign. If he's indeed out for the season, Mitch Moreland and Jurickson Profar will benefit the most.

Rangers | Prince Fielder has herniated disc

Wed, 20 Jul 2016 15:41:21 -0700

Texas Rangers 1B Prince Fielder (neck) is dealing with a herniated disc and will visit with Dr. Drew Dossett Friday, July 22. Fielder could need season-ending surgery. He's been placed on the disabled list.

Fantasy Tip: There's a good chance we won't see him again for the rest of the year depending on the results of his doctor visit Friday. The disc herniation likely explains Fielder's disappointing .212/.292/.334 slash line with dwindling power (eight homers). He shouldn't have been carried in shallow mixed leagues and can likely be jettisoned in deep mixed leagues now, as well. Mitch Moreland and Jurickson Profar are likely to split time at first base, and Profar should be playing every day now with Shin-Soo Choo also on the DL.

Rangers | Shin-Soo Choo back in lineup

Tue, 19 Jul 2016 16:47:44 -0700

Texas Rangers OF Shin-Soo Choo (back) is back in the starting lineup as the designated hitter and is batting leadoff against Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim SP Tim Lincecum Tuesday, July 19. 1B Prince Fielder remains out of the lineup.

Fantasy Tip: Choo has had his fair share of trouble staying on the field this year (just 32 games), but he's produced when he's played with a .271 average, seven home runs and 17 RBI and is a good table-setter for a potent lineup. Return him to all fantasy lineups in a juicy matchup. Fielder's power and playing time have diminished, making him a corner infield backup in deep mixed and AL-only universes.

Rangers | Prince Fielder to start at 1B

Sun, 17 Jul 2016 10:36:45 -0700

Texas Rangers 1B Prince Fielder will start at first base against Chicago Cubs SP John Lackey Sunday, July 17. 1B Mitch Moreland is not in the starting lineup.

Fantasy Tip: Fielder has picked up only three hits in his last seven games and is hitting .179 this month. Owners probably should avoid Fielder and look for more productive players for their lineup.

Rangers | Prince Fielder not in the lineup

Sat, 16 Jul 2016 08:50:25 -0700

Texas Rangers 1B Prince Fielder is not in the starting lineup against Chicago Cubs SP Jason Hammel Saturday, July 16, because the team is not able to use a designated hitter in a National League stadium.

Fantasy Tip: Fielder will return to the lineup once the team resumes playing in American League stadiums. Owners in daily fantasy leagues probably should avoid Fielder this weekend.
