Rangers | Prince Fielder hopes to be ready for spring training

Thu, 10 Jul 2014 16:26:15 -0700

Texas Rangers 1B Prince Fielder (neck) is hopeful that he'll be fully ready for spring training next year, although he has yet to resume baseball activities. Fielder is not trying to return this year. Fielder finished the year with a .247 average and just three home runs in 42 games. "Right now, not really worried about the baseball part. Worried about just actually letting it fuse and letting it heal," Fielder said. "Baseball stuff, that'll be there, obviously, but I just want to heal first before I do anything. Once I get cleared to do something, I don't know how to do under 100 percent."

Fantasy Tip: There will be some hesitance to draft Fielder because of his serious neck injury, but if he's 100 percent healthy in spring training next year, he could be a relative bargain on draft day if the rest of your league mates are wary of the slugger.

Rangers | Prince Fielder could swing a bat this season

Fri, 27 Jun 2014 13:17:17 -0700

There is an outside chance Texas Rangers 1B Prince Fielder (Neck) could swing a bat again before the end of the season.

Fantasy Tip: While anything Fielder does before the end of the year would be considered good news, Fielder will not have any value until 2015 at the earliest.

Rangers | Prince Fielder to DL, Donnie Murphy activated

Fri, 23 May 2014 10:26:28 -0700

The Texas Rangers officially placed 1B Prince Fielder (neck, back) on the disabled list Friday, May 23, and activated 2B Donnie Murphy (neck) from the DL in a corresponding move.

Fantasy Tip: It's probably smart to wait until Fielder's second opinion confirms the initial diagnosis before you outright drop him in redraft leagues. The news that Jurickson Profar (shoulder) may not play this year, either, makes Rougned Odor and Murphy more valuable in deep mixed and AL-only leagues.

Rangers | Surgery recommended for Prince Fielder

Thu, 22 May 2014 14:43:52 -0700

Texas Rangers 1B Prince Fielder (neck, back) has been recommended to have season-ending surgery to fix a herniated disc in his neck, and he's expected to be out for three to four months. The surgery is pending a second opinion, but it's been tentatively set for Tuesday, May 27.

Fantasy Tip: The Rangers have been by far the unluckiest team in the league with injuries so far this year. Fielder is another big name to fall for the rest of the year. You can drop him in all redraft leagues. Mitch Moreland will now be the permanent first baseman for the forseeable future, but his value doesn't change all that much, since he was a fixture in the lineup already as the DH. Perhaps the Rangers now consider adding Kendrys Morales? It's a possibility.
