Rangers | Prince Fielder in career-long homer drought

Fri, 27 May 2016 15:51:25 -0700

Texas Rangers 1B Prince Fielder has gone 32 games and 119 at-bats without a home run, which is the longest drought of his career.

Fantasy Tip: At some point, Texas has to be looking for more in the heart of their lineup, as Fielder has just two home runs this season with a .193/.269/.281 slash line. It is fine to remain patient with Fielder given his track record, but he should be riding the pine and not in your starting lineup.

Rangers | Prince Fielder sitting vs. lefty

Mon, 16 May 2016 15:32:48 -0700

Texas Rangers 1B Prince Fielder is not in the starting lineup against Oakland Athletics left-handed SP Sean Manaea Monday, May 16. 3B Adrian Beltre is the designated hitter. 2B Hanser Alberto is starting at third base and hitting ninth, while OF Ryan Rua moves to first base and is batting sixth. OF Justin Ruggiano draws into the lineup in left field and is hitting seventh. Also, SS Elvis Andrus moves up to the two-hole.

Fantasy Tip: After a bounceback year in 2015, Fielder is hurting his fantasy owners big time with a slash line of .184/.253/.277 with just two home runs and 20 RBI in 38 games. If you have better options at first base, you should seriously consider benching Fielder for an extended period until he shows signs of life. Alberto, Rua and Ruggiano are all low-end options in daily games. Andrus gains notable value for DFS tonight, but has a limited ceiling in terms of what he can offer in terms of power and speed on a given day.

Rangers | Rougned Odor tossed after landing punch

Sun, 15 May 2016 16:13:55 -0700

Texas Rangers 2B Rougned Odor was ejected after punching Toronto Blue Jays OF Jose Bautista during a brawl Sunday, May 15. Bautista and 3B Josh Donaldson were ejected for the same fight, along with Texas bench coach Steve Buechele. Toronto Blue Jays RP Jesse Chavez was ejected after the game resumed for hitting Texas Rangers 1B Prince Fielder.

Fantasy Tip: The bad blood between these teams was obvious, and there will likely be some sort of suspension for Odor and possibly others involved. Stay tuned for updates on any discipline handed down.

Rangers | Prince Fielder dropped one spot

Tue, 10 May 2016 13:42:14 -0700

Texas Rangers 1B Prince Fielder is being dropped from cleanup to fifth in the lineup against Chicago White Sox left-handed SP Carlos Rodon Tuesday, May 10. OF Ian Desmond moves up to the cleanup spot.

Fantasy Tip: It might be because the Rangers are facing a lefty, but the move is also indicative of how Fielder is playing (.192/.241/.280 with two home runs in 125 at-bats). Fielder isn't getting enough lift on the ball these days, and he's no lock to reach the 20-homer mark again. If you're buying low, just know what you're getting. Desmond is headed in the opposite direction and is a fine player to build around in daily contests against the lefty in the cleanup spot.

Rangers | Prince Fielder does very little

Wed, 04 May 2016 19:48:10 -0700

Texas Rangers 1B Prince Fielder went hitless in four at-bats with a strikeout Wednesday, May 4, against the Toronto Blue Jays to drop his overall average to .202. The hitless game snaps his modest five-game hitting streak.

Fantasy Tip: Fielder continues to struggle, and he has no RBIs in the month of May with a very subpar .560 OPS overall this season. He will continue to see regular at-bats, so fantasy owners need to stick with him, but two homers through 28 games is not exactly what anyone had in mind.

Rangers | Price Fielder, Mitch Moreland out

Wed, 27 Apr 2016 14:27:55 -0700

Texas Rangers 1Bs Prince Fielder and Mitch Moreland are not in the starting lineup against New York Yankees left-handed SP CC Sabathia Wednesday, April 27. OF Ryan Rua is the designated hitter and is batting fifth, while 2B Hanser Alberto is at first base and is hitting eighth.

Fantasy Tip: Rua hits much better in his short career against left-handers (.287 with three of his six homers), so he could be a deep sleeper worth pursuing in daily formats. Alberto has just two hits in 14 at-bats (.143) and hit .222 in 99 at-bats in 2015. He's one to avoid.

Rangers | Prince Fielder wallops first '16 homer

Wed, 06 Apr 2016 15:14:56 -0700

Texas Rangers 1B Prince Fielder went yard for the first time this season Wednesday, April 6, opposite the Seattle Mariners. He finished the game 1-for-3 with one run scored and three RBI, while also drawing a walk.

Fantasy Tip: Good to see the mammoth designated hitter get No. 1 out of the way, though he's still just hitting .182 out of the gate. Even so, that number will probably go up quickly as Fielder becomes more comfortable in the box again. The important thing for his owners is that he brings the power numbers with consistency.

Rangers | Prince Fielder returns to Rangers

Fri, 11 Mar 2016 11:34:53 -0800

Texas Rangers 1B Prince Fielder returned to the team Friday, March 11, after undergoing a sleep study in Dallas to figure out a solution for his sleep apnea. He was given a mask to wear at night when he goes to bed, and Fielder said it has made a "big difference" thus far.

Fantasy Tip: It's important for Fielder to nip this issue early on, and it looks like the mask he received is the cure that should have him right for the start of the season. Fielder is coming off a very nice rebound campaign in which he hit .305 with 23 home runs and 98 RBI, and owners can expect much of the same as long as he remains healthy like he did last year. Playing half of his games in Arlington, he could very easily exceed those power numbers, too.

Rangers | Prince Fielder having trouble sleeping

Wed, 09 Mar 2016 16:51:06 -0800

Texas Rangers 1B Prince Fielder was sent back to the Dallas area in hopes of finding an answer to his sleeping problems, according to assistant general manager Thad Levine. Fielder will undergo a sleep study and is expected to rejoin the team Saturday, March 12.

Fantasy Tip: This could be quite concerning and is something to keep an eye on. Fielder lost first base eligibility in a lot of leagues, which will hurt his value. He's no longer a lock for 30 homers, either, and a repeat of his 2014 season might be tough to ask for. Still, Fielder is a top-12 fantasy first baseman in leagues where he's eligible.

Rangers | Prince Fielder content to DH

Mon, 22 Feb 2016 22:36:18 -0800

Texas Rangers 1B Prince Fielder (neck) showed up early to camp Monday, Feb. 22, and he is content to serve mostly as the designated hitter for the first time in his career so 1B Mitch Moreland can stay at first base.

Fantasy Tip: Fielder's neck was an issue in the past, but he is reportedly good to go now. He still has plenty of power and is a nice fantasy option for his solid average and home run potential.
