Baltimore Orioles 3B Mark Reynolds (calf) is out of the lineup against the Minnesota Twins Sunday, April 8, after he fouled a ball off his left calf during the previous day's game. Reynolds has a bruise but said he could have played through the injury. INF Wilson Betemit is starting at third base in his place.

Baltimore Orioles 3B Wilson Betemit might be used in the outfield this season, as the team is only carrying four outfielders. 2B Ryan Flaherty also played some left and right field during spring training, and 2B Robert Andino can play the outfield in an emergency.

Baltimore Orioles INF Wilson Betemit has primarily seen time at third base during spring training but manager Buck Showalter suggested he could also see playing time at first base and shortstop as well.

The Baltimore Orioles have reportedly expressed interest in free-agent 1B Casey Kotchman (Rays). If Kotchman is signed, 1B Chris Davis could become the primary designated hitter and IF Wilson Betemit would become more of a utility player and part-time DH.

Baltimore Orioles 3B Wilson Betemit will make $3.25 million as part of his two-year deal with the team. The deal also includes a vesting option for the 2014 season. He will make a $500,000 signing bonus, $1 million this year and $1.75 million in 2013. The vesting option is worth $3.2 million if he has a combined 700 plate appearances over the two years.

Updating an earlier report, Baltimore Orioles general manager Dan Duquette confirmed 3B Wilson Betemit will be the team's designated hitter. The option in his contract is a vesting option.
