Joe Capozzi, of The Palm Beach Post, reports Dominican Republic manager Felipe Alou was considering using Florida Marlins SS Hanley Ramirez in the outfield in the 2009 World Baseball Classic, but the Marlins vetoed the idea.

Rockies | Jimenez may not pitch in WBC first round

The Denver Post's Patrick Saunders reports Colorado Rockies SP Ubaldo Jimenez may not start in the first round of the World Baseball Classic. Manager Felipe Alou has pegged Cincinnati Reds SPs Edinson Volquez and Johnny Cueto for two of the three games, and free-agent SP Pedro Martinez or Jimenez are in line for the third game. That could disrupt Jimenez's pitching schedule.

Updating previous reports, Astros.MLB.com's Alyson Footer reports Houston Astros SS Miguel Tejada changed his mind and will play for the Dominican Republic in the World Baseball Classic. Manager Felipe Alou convinced Tejada to play after promising him action at shortstop, third base and designated hitter.

Rich Draper, of SanFrancisco.Giants.MLB.com, reports San Francisco Giants general manager Brian Sabean will have to decide which of the team's 11 free agents to re-sign this offseason, as well as deciding whether or not to bring back manager Felipe Alou. The Giants free agents include outfielders Barry Bonds, Steve Finley and Moises Alou, 1B Shea Hillenbrand, 2B Ray Durham, 3B Pedro Feliz, SP Jason Schmidt and relievers Jamey Wright, Mike Stanton and Steve Kline.

Giants | Wright, Alou face suspensions

The Associated Press reports San Francisco Giants RP Jamey Wright has been suspended three games Friday, Sept. 22, for intentionally throwing at an opposing hitter, while manager Felipe Alou has been suspended one game. Alou was suspended because both teams in the Giants game Tuesday, Sept. 19, had been warned prior to Wright hitting Colorado Rockies OF Matt Holliday with a pitch. Both will begin serving their suspensions Friday.
