Red Sox | David Ross leaves game

Fri, 01 Aug 2014 19:05:23 -0700

Boston Red Sox C David Ross (foot) left the game Friday, Aug. 1, against the New York Yankees, and he might have ruptured the tendon in his right foot. Ross was hoping for that, although he'll have immense pain now, the healing of his injury will begin.

Fantasy Tip: If Ross does have a serious injury which requires a stint on the 15-day disabled list, the team could summon minor-leaguers Daniel Butler or Blake Swihart, as Ryan Lavarnway (hand) is not quite ready to return from an injury. If you're looking to get ahead of things, Butler might be your best add in AL-only fantasy formats.

Red Sox | Catcher PT split

Wed, 09 Jul 2014 13:46:48 -0700

Boston Red Sox C Christian Vazquez will catch four times a week, while C David Ross will be behind the dish three times a week.

Fantasy Tip: Vazquez is the one to own here for AL-only managers. Obviously the split won't be this cut and dry each week, but Vazquez has youth and more offensive skills on his side.

Red Sox | Christian Vazquez coming up

Wed, 09 Jul 2014 11:38:53 -0700

Boston Red Sox C Christian Vazquez is being called up from the minors Wednesday, July 9.

Fantasy Tip: Vazquez obviously has more upside than David Ross, but it's unclear how much he'll play. Vazquez won't show much power, but his short stroke could make him useful for average. Vazquez's superior defensive skills could easily give him the edge over Ross. Those looking for a catcher in AL leagues should give him a shot.
