Philadelphia Phillies SP Cliff Lee (elbow) will not need surgery for his Grade 2 flexor pronator strain, but he is going to rest at home in Arkansas for about two weeks before rejoining the team early in September for a re-evaluation. He will not return this season.
Fantasy Tip: Lee can be safely dropped in all non-keeper fantasy leagues, as the veteran won't be back this season. In keeper formats, he has very little value, as he is getting long in the tooth and he is injury-prone, so his value might be at an all-time low heading into 2015.

Philadelphia Phillies SP Cliff Lee (elbow) told reporters after the game Thursday, July 31, that he could miss the rest of the season after reinjuring the flexor pronator muscle in his left elbow. "At this point, that's probably the case," Lee said. He will be examined by doctors Saturday, Aug. 2.
Fantasy Tip: If you don't have anymore DL spots to use on your squad, you may want to seriously consider cutting Lee altogether in redraft leagues. At the age of 35, it's highly unlikely that Lee can make a return and be effective this season. David Buchanan is the likely candidate to come up and take Lee's rotation spot. Look to add him in NL-only leagues if that's the case.

Philadelphia Phillies SP Cliff Lee (elbow) was placed on the 15-day disabled list with a pronator strain in his left elbow. P Cesar Jimenez was recalled from Triple-A Lehigh Valley.
Fantasy Tip: Lee's season could be in jeopardy, but place him on your DL for now. David Buchanan could take his rotation spot but is just a NL-only target for depth purposes.

Philadelphia Phillies SP Cliff Lee (elbow) left the game Thursday, July 31, with a left flexor pronator strain, according to the team. Lee was making his third start since returning from the 60-day disabled list for the same injury.
Fantasy Tip: Lee missed a little more than two months recovering from the injury the first time around, and if a similar timetable is needed with this occurrence, his season will essentially be over. It certainly looks bad for Lee, but don't cut him loose until a definitive recovery time is given.

Philadelphia Phillies SP Cliff Lee (undisclosed) gestured toward his elbow before asking to be taken out of the game Thursday, July 31, according to ESPN's Buster Olney.
Fantasy Tip: The exact nature and severity of the injury remain to be seen, but the fact that he gestured toward his elbow is a bad sign.

Philadelphia Phillies SP Cliff Lee (undisclosed) left his start early with an undisclosed injury Thursday, July 31.
Fantasy Tip: It doesn't look good initially. Lee immediately called for a trainer after throwing a pitch. The fear would be that it's related to the left elbow injury that recently had him on the DL. Stay tuned for more updates on the severity of his injury.

Philadelphia Phillies SP Cliff Lee could be traded next month, since the team is willing to pay down some of his backloaded contract to facilitate a trade if they can get the right prospects. Lee is guaranteed around $48 million through next year, and the Phillies would likely have to pay a fair amount of his remaining contract to work out a trade.

Philadelphia Phillies SPs Cliff Lee and A.J. Burnett, RP Jonathan Papelbon, and 1B Ryan Howard haven't attracted much serious interest in trade talks. Howard and Lee have almost no market, and Burnett and Papelbon's allure has been limited. The latter two have unattractive player options that are limiting interest. All four may be candidates for an August trade after the non-waiver deadline passes.
Fantasy Tip: Philly's efforts to blow things up aren't going so well, and fantasy players may have to wait a few more weeks for significant changes to happen.
