Lee underwent surgery after a spur in his foot recently broke loose. He will not require a cast and will return to normal baseball activities over a period of two to three weeks, according to the team. Pitchers and catchers are scheduled to report to the team's facility Feb. 17. General manager Jack Zduriencik said, "We decided Lee should have the surgery as soon as possible, rather than try to pitch with the discomfort during the year. To get it out of the way and have it behind us is important." The team hadn't indicated any prior knowledge of a foot issue with Lee, but the issue is believed to be minor. Yankees | Inquired about Lee Ken Rosenthal, of FOXSports.com, reports the New York Yankees inquired about Seattle Mariners SP Cliff Lee both before and after he was dealt by the Philadelphia Phillies. However, talks with the Mariners "went nowhere." MLB | Halladay, Lee trade may extend to Thursday The Toronto Star reports the three-team deal that would send Toronto Blue Jays SP Roy Halladay to the Philadelphia Phillies and SP Cliff Lee to the Seattle Mariners may not be finalized until Thursday, Dec. 17. The Blue Jays would send Halladay and $6 million to the Phillies for C Travis D'Arnaud, SP Kyle Drabek and OF Michael Taylor. Halladay would receive a $60 million, three-year extension through the 2013 season with the Phillies. The deal also includes a 2014 option. The trade would be very complex, with the Phillies receiving money from the Blue Jays to help pay Halladay's salary for the 2010 season. One source said Mariners general manager Jack Zduriencik is looking for two starting pitchers, and the team has discussed dealing for Lee in recent days.
