Mariners | Lee to miss start of spring training Mon, 08 Feb 2010 16:07:55 -0800 Greg Johns, of the Seattle Post-Intelligencer, reports Seattle Mariners SP Cliff Lee (foot) will miss the start of spring training after undergoing surgery to remove a bone spur on his left foot Friday, Feb. 5. Lee underwent surgery after a spur in his foot recently broke loose. He will not require a cast and will return to normal baseball activities over a period of two to three weeks, according to the team. Pitchers and catchers are scheduled to report to the team's facility Feb. 17. General manager Jack Zduriencik said, "We decided Lee should have the surgery as soon as possible, rather than try to pitch with the discomfort during the year. To get it out of the way and have it behind us is important." The team hadn't indicated any prior knowledge of a foot issue with Lee, but the issue is believed to be minor.
