Francisco Rodriguez Fantasy Baseball News, Notes, Rumors and Statistics
The latest Francisco Rodriguez MLB and fantasy baseball news
Fri, 24 May 2013 20:25:33 -0700 Milwaukee Brewers RP Jim Henderson (leg) left his appearance Friday, May 24, against the Pittsburgh Pirates in the ninth inning due to an apparent right leg injury. RP Francisco Rodriguez came on to finish up, collecting his first save. Fantasy Tip: It is uncertain how much time, if any, Henderson will be forced to miss. Rodriguez and deposed closer John Axford are likely to see time in the closer's role if Henderson ends up requiring a stint on the 15-day disabled list.
Thu, 16 May 2013 12:19:43 -0700 Milwaukee Brewers RP John Axford allowed a run in the eighth inning Tuesday, May 14, to blow a lead, and he left the game with an 0-3 record and a 9.20 ERA on the year. He also has three blown saves. "I definitely am frustrated," Axford said. "I can't lie about that, but I feel strong, I feel good and that's where I've got to keep building off of. The first four games of this season, that wasn't me, and that's something I can get a wash too and brush that away. I felt different; my mechanics weren't quite right." Axford insists that his mechanics are where they need to be and his velocity is better. Fantasy Tip: Axford hasn't helped his cause to eventually win back the closing duties from Jim Henderson, and now Francisco Rodriguez is in the picture. If Axford continues to pitch poorly, K-Rod could easily surpass him in the late-inning bullpen heirarchy. If you still own Axford in an NL-only league, it might be best to let him ride the bench for now.
Wed, 15 May 2013 20:34:05 -0700 The Milwaukee Brewers optioned C Blake Lalli to Triple-A Nashville Wednesday, May 15, and transferred 3B Taylor Green (hip) from the 15-day to 60-day disabled list to make room for RP Francisco Rodriguez.
Wed, 15 May 2013 12:39:04 -0700 Milwaukee Brewers RP Francisco Rodriguez will be recalled from the minors Wednesday, May 15, with his opt-out date coming today. Fantasy Tip: K-Rod has extensive closing experience, but don't expect Ron Roenicke to immediately let him handle late-inning situations for Milwaukee. Jim Henderson as taken advantage of his opportunity to pitch in the ninth, and he hasn't allowed a run in his last four outings. Tuck Rodriguez away in extremely deep mixed leagues and NL-only formats if you're speculating for saves down the road.
Thu, 02 May 2013 15:24:37 -0700 Milwaukee Brewers RP Francisco Rodriguez has obtained a work visa and will start pitching in the minor leagues next week with High Single-A Brevard County, and he'll make three outings with them. He'll then be moved to Triple-A Nashville and make three more appearances there. If Rodriguez is promoted, he'll make $2 million. The team's 30-day window to recall Rodriguez will end May 16. "If we don't call him up, he has the option of staying down there and continuing to pitch or leave and look for a job elsewhere," said assistant general manager Gord Ash. "It has to make sense on both ends for us to bring him here." Fantasy Tip: The timing of this news on Rodriguez is interesting. The Brewers' bullpen has been pretty awful this year, aside from Jim Henderson's performance in the closer's role since John Axford was demoted. Axford continues to struggle, and Ron Roenicke doesn't have a clear setup man. Henderson doesn't have a stranglehold on the ninth inning, either, so Rodriguez could easily enter this mix if he performs well. Speculative closer seekers need to take notice.
Wed, 17 Apr 2013 15:21:29 -0700 The Milwaukee Brewers re-signed RP Francisco Rodriguez to a minor league deal Wednesday, April 17. Fantasy Tip: Stash K-Rod in NL-only leagues if you're looking for saves options. He has plenty of work to do to prove to the Brewers that he belongs in the big leagues again and pitching meaningful innings out of the bullpen. However, with Axford struggling and Ron Roenicke scratching his head, Rodriguez could become an option in the ninth inning if the current options continue to frustrate.
Wed, 17 Apr 2013 14:56:13 -0700 The Milwaukee Brewers are close to re-signing RP Francisco Rodriguez to a minor league deal, and he was at the team's field for a physical Wednesday, April 17. Fantasy Tip: With the Brew Crew's bullpen in a state of chaos and flux, Rodriguez is an intriguing piece for fantasy owners chasing saves at this early juncture. He's certainly worth a look in NL-only leagues, but you might have to sit on him for a while until he can work his way back to the majors. Also, it'll take Jim Henderson faultering in the closer role for Ron Roenicke to shake things up again.
Sat, 13 Apr 2013 11:05:24 -0700 Contrary to a previous report, the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim claim they are not interested in free-agent RP Francisco Rodriguez (Brewers).
Fri, 12 Apr 2013 18:25:33 -0700 The Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim, Miami Marlins and Milwaukee Brewers are among the teams showing interest in free-agent RP Francisco Rodriguez (Brewers).
Mon, 25 Mar 2013 12:57:45 -0700 Scott Boras, the agent for free-agent RPs Jose Valverde (Tigers) and Francisco Rodriguez (Brewers), is expecting to find his clients teams to sign with soon. Valverde has lost 18 pounds and is throwing 93 to 95 mph in bullpen sessions. Fantasy Tip: Valverde would be worth a waiver claim or FAAB investment if he lands with a team that gives him a shot to close. Rodriguez probably isn't worth much because it's unlikely he'll be anything more than a setup man with his new team.
