"I was dumbfounded when they made the offer, that they think that highly of me, but I still think I can pitch," said Thompson, the 35-year-old left-hander who was the first cut from major league camp this spring. "I'm going to try it in the minors and see how it goes. "It's nice to know I have that opportunity, but I really want to be able to look in the mirror and tell myself I did everything I could."
