New York Yankees 1B Mark Teixeira said Tuesday, Jan. 31, that he might lay down bunts this season to try and beat the shift. "I've been so against (laying down bunts) in my entire career, but I might lay down a few bunts," Teixeira said. "If I can beat the shift that way, that's important."

New York Yankees 1B Mark Teixeira said he is 10 pounds lighter thanks to a new diet and exercise. Teixeira's goal heading into next season is to improve his batting average from the left side of the plate. He hit just .224 from that side last season. "I'm going to do the same things but focus more on, left-handed, using the whole field," Teixeira said. "I looked at everything at the end of the season. I went through my entire season. I need to hit more singles left-handed. That's the fact of the matter." He plans to start baseball activities Jan. 1.
