The Philadelphia Phillies designated OF Laynce Nix for assignment Tuesday, Aug. 6. OF Darin Ruf is playing right field for the first time in his career Tuesday with OF Domonic Brown (concussion) back from the disabled list. Nix was hitting .211 with a .601 OPS in 151 games for the Phillies.
Fantasy Tip: Ruf will continue to see playing time as long as Ryan Howard is on the disabled list, so continue to ride him in all formats.

The Philadelphia Phillies placed OF Domonic Brown (concussion) on the 7-day disabled list Thursday, July 25, and recalled OF Steve Susdorf from the minors in a corresponding move.
Fantasy Tip: Thankfully for Brown, it's just the 7-day DL, but as we all know, concussions are very tricky. Brown could easily be out much longer than seven days, depending on when his symptoms subside. For now, Laynce Nix will see increased PT in left field, but he could be part of some platoon between Susdorf or even Kevin Frandsen.

Updating a previous report, Philadelphia Phillies OF Domonic Brown (concussion) will miss at least two games due to concussion-like symptoms after slamming his head on the warning track while diving for a ball Tuesday, July 23. Brown will go through concussion testing mandated by the league before he's approved to return to the field. If his symptoms worsen, he could land on the 7-day disabled list. OF Laynce Nix is replacing Brown in left field.

Philadelphia Phillies OF Domonic Brown (concussion) is dealing with concussion-like symptoms and is not playing Wednesday, July 24.
Fantasy Tip: Keep an eye on Brown's status. He may be forced to go on the 7-day disabled list for concussions if his symptoms linger. Laynce Nix will benefit from a starting role as long as Brown is out.

Philadelphia Phillies OF Ben Revere (elbow) received X-rays on his left elbow that came back negative. He'll say how it feels tomorrow.
Fantasy Tip: Consider him day-to-day and prepare for a potentially long absence. Any plan to replace Revere would likely again involve a mishmash of outfield alignments that would give more time to John Mayberry Jr. and Laynce Nix, which only NL-only players should follow.

Philadelphia Phillies OF John Mayberry Jr. is 5-for-19 on the young season with three doubles, a homer and four walks, but Phillies manager Charlie Manuel plans on continuing to rotate OFs Mayberry, Laynce Nix and Ezequiel Carrera until OF Delmon Young (ankle) is ready.

Philadelphia Phillies OF John Mayberry Jr. is starting over OF Laynce Nix in the outfield on opening day Monday, April 1, because manager Charlie Manuel likes Mayberry's approach against Atlanta Braves SP Tim Hudson. Manuel's decision on the platoon in right field will be made based on matchups, the type of pitcher starting and recent performances.
Fantasy Tip: Both players will cannabalize each other's PT, making them only valuable in deep NL leagues. Mayberry should be your first target of the two.

Philadelphia Phillies OF Darin Ruf struck out three times in an exhibition game against the Dominican Republic Tuesday, March 5, and he also continued to struggle with his defense in the outfield. Ruf is currently 3-for-23 with one extra-base hit this spring. "That's probably got something to do with his hitting," manager Charlie Manuel said. "He's trying too hard right now and things are not going good for him. He'll be all right. He is going to get some more hits. He's fine. He's not going to go his whole life with all collars." OFs John Mayberry Jr. and Laynce Nix are an alternative to Ruf in left field to start the season.

Philadelphia Phillies OF Delmon Young will join an inexperienced outfield picture in 2013 that includes OFs Domonic Brown, Darin Ruf, John Mayberry Jr. and Laynce Nix. Brown figures to win a job outright, but the other spots are likely up for grabs.
