Dolphins | Marino Talks about His Chances in 2000

Thu, 21 Jul 2005 17:15:36 -0700

At a press conference Thursday to discuss his Hall of Fame induction, July 21 former Miami Dolphins QB Dan Marino discussed the fact he could have signed with the Minnesota Vikings or Pittsburgh Steelers for the 2000 season. "Yeah, I had a chance to go to Pittsburgh, too. I could have gone there. I don't think anybody knew that, but I could have gone to Pittsburgh and a few other places. Minnesota was the one that everyone was harping on at the time and I probably could have played. I just kept thinking back at the time how my body felt the year before. For me, there was something special about playing 17 years at one place, and I think that is never going to change. Although I was pretty close to doing it, it just didn't feel right. Sometimes you have to go by instincts and your emotions. That's why I probably didn't do it. I probably could have played another year, no doubt."

Dolphins | Marino Proud about Playing Streak

Thu, 21 Jul 2005 17:06:56 -0700

At a press conference Thursday to discuss his Hall of Fame induction, July 21 former Miami Dolphins QB Dan Marino was asked about the NFL record he is most proud of and he replied: "The thing I was very proud of, which Brett Favre is going through right now, is playing every week. I think I went through a streak of 145 in a row, but it never counted because of the strike. The league never recognized it because I missed two strike games. Lining up every week, playing for your team and franchise, knowing your teammates and everybody can rely on you is something that, as a player, you can be very proud of. I am sure that Brett Favre is very proud of that. That is something that I took pride in. When you retire and you look back on some of the things you accomplished, they'd probably mean a lot more to you than they did when you were playing."
