Seattle Mariners general manager Jack Zduriencik offered to call other teams and gauge their interest in OF Eric Byrnes, but he told him not to, the San Francisco Chronicle's Scott Ostler reports. "To be honest, I don't really have any interest," Byrnes said. "I've never been scared for it to be done, for life after baseball, and it's not because I didn't love the game."

MLB.com's Doug Miller reports that the Seattle Mariners have signed free-agent OF Eric Byrnes to a one-year contract worth $400,000. He is expected to split time in left field with Milton Bradley and Ryan Langerhans, and serve as a backup to Franklin Gutierrez in center field and Ichiro Suzuki in right field. Byrnes is projected to be used near the top of the batting order or in the No. 9 spot, ahead of Suzuki, on days when he is in the lineup.

The San Francisco Chronicle's John Shea reports that OF Eric Byrnes (Diamondbacks) is interested in playing for the San Francisco Giants. Byrnes was a Giants fan growing up and makes his offseason home in the Bay Area. "It's not a real secret (that) I'd definitely be interested," he said. "The Giants, of course, that's the best fit geographically." Even though the team's right field situation is currently unsettled, Byrnes said that he wouldn't mind serving as a utility player.
