Fri, 17 May 2013 13:47:30 -0700 Texas Rangers SP Colby Lewis (triceps) threw a bullpen session Friday, May 17, and will start for Double-A Frisco Monday, May 20. If he doesn't have any setbacks, Lewis would need two more rehab starts before returning to the team's rotation. That return date could come June 4.
Thu, 16 May 2013 14:23:47 -0700 Texas Rangers SP Colby Lewis (triceps) will throw a bullpen session Friday, May 17, and start for Double-A Frisco Monday, May 20.
Thu, 16 May 2013 13:52:59 -0700 The Texas Rangers placed SP Alexi Ogando (biceps) on the 15-day disabled list with biceps tendonitis Thursday, May 16, and recalled P Cory Burns in a corresponding move. SP Josh Lindblom will make the start Monday, May 20. Fantasy Tip: Burns will work out of the bullpen and Lindblom is a temporary solution for Ogando's rotation post. Colby Lewis (elbow, triceps) could return soon from the DL before Ogando gets back, so he could slot into the rotation. If not, Martin Perez (arm), who is recovered from a broken arm, could come up. Lewis isn't a bad arm to stash in deep mixed leagues with his return looming.
Tue, 14 May 2013 20:18:19 -0700 Texas Rangers SP Colby Lewis (triceps) might make his next minor-league rehab start Monday, May 20, with Double-A Frisco. He was shut down for a few days due to inflammation in his right triceps muscle. Lewis is scheduled for a bullpen session this weekend in Arlington.
Mon, 13 May 2013 16:04:02 -0700 Texas Rangers SP Colby Lewis (triceps) received an anti-inflammatory injection in his right triceps muscle after being diagnosed with inflammation. He has been removed from his rehab assignment and will likely resume throwing this weekend. The team hopes he can resume his rehab assignment next week. Fantasy Tip: This represents a minor setback for Lewis, and it buys more time for either Justin Grimm or Nick Tepesch in the starting rotation. Lewis is expected to take one of those younger's spot when he's fully healthy. Lewis is close enough to warrant stashing on your mixed league roster.
Fri, 10 May 2013 16:26:41 -0700 Texas Rangers SP Colby Lewis (elbow) topped out at only 89 mph with his fastball during his rehab start with Triple-A Round Rock Thursday, May 9, which is a bit below his average velocity last year at 90-91 mph. Lewis threw two innings (41 pitches) and gave up three runs while striking out two and walking two. He is expected to pitch again for Round Rock Tuesday, May 14, and his goal is to throw 55-60 pitches or four innings. "If he continues to spot the ball the way he's capable of spotting it, the velocity will pick up," manager Ron Washington said. "He'll get outs the way he usually gets outs. The more he goes out there the velocity will go up. We're not looking at 94-95 mph." Fantasy Tip: This is just the beginning of Lewis' minor league rehab assignment, so he needs more time to build up his arm strength to a peak level. Don't be too alarmed by the diminished velocity and poor results. He's not a bad option to stash if you have the room in deep mixed leagues.
Sun, 05 May 2013 09:37:25 -0700 Texas Rangers SP Colby Lewis (elbow) threw 27 pitches over two innings in an extended spring training game Saturday, May 4. He felt fine after the outing and remains on track to begin a rehab assignment with Triple-A Round Rock Thursday, May 9.
Thu, 02 May 2013 16:10:31 -0700 Texas Rangers SP Martin Perez (arm) will begin his rehab assignment with Double-A Frisco Monday, May 6. Perez could return to the team at the end of May. Fantasy Tip: Perez might be back sooner than Colby Lewis (elbow), but Perez won't be guaranteed a starting rotation spot with Justin Grimm pitching well. Lewis will take precedence over Perez if there is just one open rotation spot at the end of the month. The rotation spots are speculation right now, at best, though, so consider this situation fluid until the time comes when these pitchers are activated. Lewis should be your first target for a stash, however, if you are looking for starting pitching.
Thu, 02 May 2013 14:21:55 -0700 Texas Rangers SP Colby Lewis (elbow) will make a start in extended spring training Saturday, May 4, and will then join Triple-A Round Rock if he doesn't have any setbacks. He'll start for Round Rock May 9, and he'll throw three innings. He should make another start for Class AAA May 14. Fantasy Tip: Lewis must build up his arm strength with Round Rock, which will probably take three or four minor league outings, but after that, he will be back with Texas and will have a rotation spot. If you have the room to stash him in mixed leagues, now is the time to start considering it.
Wed, 01 May 2013 15:10:34 -0700 Texas Rangers SP Matt Harrison (back) had a setback with his back that required additional surgery Wednesday, May 1. There is no timetable for Harrison's return. An MRI showed another smaller herniation of a previously fixed disc. Fantasy Tip: It's believed that Harrison will still be out for around three months, meaning he will miss the rest of the first half of the season. He can be dropped in all leagues except for maybe deep AL-only formats. Colby Lewis (elbow) should be rejoining Texas' rotation soon and is a good replacement for Harrison in mixed leagues.
