Rangers | Colby Lewis rocked Sunday

Mon, 06 Jul 2015 04:43:37 -0700

Texas Rangers SP Colby Lewis allowed 12 hits and 10 earned runs in four innings of work Sunday, July 5, in a 12-6 loss to the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim.

Fantasy Tip: Lewis ($4,300, 8.6% of cap) suffered just his fourth loss of the season, and he does have an 8-4 record. Lewis has had a good year and he was 4-1 with a 5.00 ERA in his last seven appearances. Chalk this up to bad luck.

Rangers | Colby Lewis struggles against O's

Mon, 29 Jun 2015 21:39:18 -0700

Texas Rangers SP Colby Lewis is scheduled to start Tuesday, June 30, against the Baltimore Orioles. However, he is 1-4 with a 6.35 ERA in his career against the Orioles.

Fantasy Tip: Lewis ($4,300; or 8.6% of cap) should be avoided in FantasyScore for this unfavorable matchup.

Rangers | Colby Lewis likes facing A's

Thu, 25 Jun 2015 10:08:10 -0700

Texas Rangers SP Colby Lewis is 7-1 with a 2.66 ERA in 13 career starts against the Oakland Athletics, who he faces Thursday, June 25. He is 1-0 and gave up just one run in 12 innings in his last two starts against them, and Oakland hitters were 5-for-39 against him in those two contests.

Fantasy Tip: Lewis ($4,700, 9.4% of cap) sets up as a nice sleeper play on FantasyScore this afternoon. In the month of June, Lewis is 3-0 with a 2.79 ERA and has 22 strikeouts in 29 innings. The A's are also one of the weaker hitting teams during day games.

Rangers | Colby Lewis looks to stay hot

Wed, 24 Jun 2015 22:45:33 -0700

Texas Rangers SP Colby Lewis is scheduled to start Thursday, June 25, against the Oakland Athletics. He is 3-0 with a 2.79 ERA over his past four starts.

Fantasy Tip: Lewis ($4,700; or 9.4% of cap) is a solid FantasyScore option based on his hot streak, and he has lasted at least seven innings with four or more strikeouts in each of his four June starts.

Rangers | Colby Lewis hit hard in latest start

Wed, 27 May 2015 12:29:09 -0700

Texas Rangers SP Colby Lewis was rocked in his start Wednesday, May 27, as he allowed 10 runs and 11 hits in 2 2/3 innings of work against the Cleveland Indians.

Fantasy Tip: Lewis ($4,900, 9.8% of cap) had previously won four of his six decisions, so chalk this up to an off day on the mound. Keep an eye on him going forward.

Rangers | Colby Lewis facing tough matchup

Wed, 27 May 2015 05:46:51 -0700

Texas Rangers SP Colby Lewis has allowed a home run to both Cleveland Indians OFs Michael Brantley and Brandon Moss, and they have a 1.119 and 1.012 career OPS against Lewis, respectively. Additionally, the current Indians roster is 25-for-89 (.281 batting average) lifetime against Lewis. Lewis faces the Cleveland Indians Wednesday, May 27.

Fantasy Tip: Lewis ($4,900, 9.8% of cap) has allowed five earned runs in consecutive games, so after a solid start, he has begun to regress to the mediocre hurler we've seen over the past four seasons -- 4.24 ERA, 1.26 WHIP and 7.9 K/9. FantasyScore players should view Lewis as a high-risk source of cap relief Wednesday, and likely going forward. In most cases, he is an ill-advised option.

Rangers | Colby Lewis allows five

Sun, 17 May 2015 07:00:16 -0700

Texas Rangers SP Colby Lewis allowed five earned runs in five full innings Saturday, May 16, against the Cleveland Indians.

Fantasy Tip: Lewis ($4,400, 8.8% of cap) had his worst showing of the year, ending a streak of five straight starts with three or fewer earned runs allowed. Oddly enough, Lewis struck out seven hitters for his second highest K total of the season. Lewis has not allowed a home run in five consecutive starts and six total starts for the season. With the homers likely to come at some point soon, this outing was likely the beginning of the end for Lewis. His next start will come Friday, May 22, against the New York Yankees.

Rangers | Colby Lewis gets shot at No. 4 job

Sun, 15 Feb 2015 21:14:54 -0800

Texas Rangers SP Colby Lewis is expected to get a chance to win the No. 4 starter's job in the spring, working behind SPs Yu Darvish, Yovani Gallardo and Derek Holland.

Fantasy Tip: Lewis is an underwhelming fantasy option, but he has proved to be useful in the past. He was able to strike out 196 batters in 2010, but injuries have knocked him down a few pegs and the offense is also not nearly as potent to help him to double-digit wins when he doesn't have his 'A' game. He lost 14 games last season with a terrible 5.18 ERA and it wouldn't be shocking to see him out of the rotation completely with many young arms vying for jobs behind the big three in Texas' rotation.

Rangers | Texas continuing to look for starting pitching

Sun, 14 Dec 2014 10:41:32 -0800

Texas Rangers general manager Jon Daniels said the team is continuing to look for starting pitching even after the acquisition of SP Ross Detwiler. "We've got a number of internal options coming to compete for a spot, all of them that we like," Daniels said. "But you can never have enough and we'll continue having conversations about adding another starter." The Rangers already have SPs Yu Darvish, Derek Holland, Colby Lewis, Detwiler, Nick Martinez and Nick Tepesch on their roster and minor league SPs Alex Gonzalez and Luke Jackson could also compete for a job during spring training.
