Rangers | Colby Lewis records quality start

Wed, 06 Apr 2016 14:35:29 -0700

Texas Rangers SP Colby Lewis recorded a quality start in his first outing of the year Wednesday, April 6, opposite the Seattle Mariners, as he yielded three runs on six hits in six innings, including two home runs. He also struck out four and walked three.

Fantasy Tip: It's about the typical line you'd expect from the 36-year-old, who is capable of racking up a good amount of quality starts, but doesn't really offer much else. Unfortunately for Lewis, he also was not supplied with a win, as closer Steve Tolleson was rocked in the ninth. Even so, Lewis does have some value in the deepest fantasy leagues, and can be useful with the right matchup in AL-only formats.

Rangers | Colby Lewis struggles against M's

Tue, 05 Apr 2016 22:14:33 -0700

Texas Rangers SP Colby Lewis is scheduled to face the Seattle Mariners Wednesday, April 6. He is 1-4 with a 5.08 ERA in six starts against the Mariners since the start of the 2013 season. He has 31 strikeouts over 39 innings during the span, but also a poor .291 opponent batting average.

Fantasy Tip: After the M's hung 10 runs on Texas in Tuesday's game, they could be dangerous against a pitcher they've fared well against in recent times. Avoid Lewis in DFS in the unfavorable matchup.

Rangers | Colby Lewis shelled by Padres

Tue, 22 Mar 2016 16:28:08 -0700

Texas Rangers SP Colby Lewis allowed 11 hits (two home runs) and nine runs in 4 2/3 innings against the San Diego Padres in spring action Tuesday, March 22.

Fantasy Tip: The 36-year-old Lewis is a finesse artist on the mound, but his homer allowance and inability to keep the ball out of the air will continue to hurt him in Texas. He shouldn't be on the radar of anyone in mixed leagues at this point.

Rangers | Colby Lewis nearing mound work

Thu, 18 Feb 2016 15:38:42 -0800

Texas Rangers SP Colby Lewis (knee) is having no issues playing catch and could start throwing off a mound within a week. He underwent offseason knee surgery Friday, Oct. 16.

Fantasy Tip: Outside of cavernous mixed and AL-only leagues, Lewis is nothing more than a streaming and daily games option in A+ matchups. He has a 4.90 ERA, a 1.36 WHIP and a 6.6 K/9 over the past two seasons, after all.

Rangers | Colby Lewis loses weight

Fri, 22 Jan 2016 18:16:25 -0800

Texas Rangers SP Colby Lewis said that he has lost 25 pounds this offseason cycling. His longest ride thus far has been 62 miles.

Fantasy Tip: Although Lewis won 17 games for Texas last season, the 36-year-old right-hander also posted a 4.66 ERA and 1.24 WHIP. As a result, he shouldn't be considered until the later rounds of drafts for AL-only and cavernous mixed leagues.

Rangers | Colby Lewis re-ups with Rangers

Fri, 18 Dec 2015 08:59:42 -0800

Free-agent SP Colby Lewis (Rangers) re-signed with the Texas Rangers Friday, Dec. 18, on a one-year, $6 million deal.

Fantasy Tip: Lewis won 17 games last year with a 4.66 ERA and 1.24 WHIP. At 36, you kind of know what you're getting. Wins aren't something you can really bank on, so he's a depth fantasy starter right now.

MLB | Colby Lewis rehab update

Thu, 03 Dec 2015 18:39:46 -0800

Free-agent SP Colby Lewis (Rangers) said he received the thumbs-up from Dr. Keith Meister on his surgically repaired left knee and he should be completely healthy by the time spring training camps open. He has been working out this offseason in the hopes of latching on with a team for the 2016 season.

Fantasy Tip: Lewis went 17-9 in 33 starts in 2015 but his 4.66 ERA and 1.24 WHIP weren't helpful to fantasy owners. The 36-year-old right-hander shouldn't be drafted outside of single-universe and deep mixed leagues as a back-of-the-rotation option.

Rangers | TEX could bring back Colby Lewis

Thu, 12 Nov 2015 18:14:40 -0800

The Texas Rangers are reportedly interested in bringing back free-agent SP Colby Lewis.

Fantasy Tip: Lewis, who turned 36 in August, went 17-9 in 33 starts last season but posted a 4.66 ERA and 1.24 WHIP and is coming off surgery to replace the torn meniscus in his left knee. He's not much more than a late-round flier in single-universe and deep mixed leagues.

Rangers | Colby Lewis undergoes knee surgery

Fri, 16 Oct 2015 14:29:17 -0700

Texas Rangers SP Colby Lewis (knee) had surgery to clean up his torn meniscus in his left knee Friday, Oct. 16. Lewis had pitched with it for much of the second half of the season.

Fantasy Tip: While Lewis won 17 games this season, his 4.66 ERA, 1.24 WHIP and 6.2 K/9 didn't help fantasy owners any. At best, he is a low-end AL-only starter heading into the 2016 season, and at 36, he likely has very little left in the tank.

Rangers | Colby Lewis flirts with perfection

Fri, 11 Sep 2015 19:51:00 -0700

Texas Rangers SP Colby Lewis took a perfect game into the eighth inning against the Oakland Athletics Friday, Sept. 11, before settling for a two-hit shutout.

Fantasy Tip: Lewis ($5,700, 11.4% of cap) had posted an 8.62 ERA in his previous three starts, and he has a 4.45 ERA for the year. Don't expect another start like this for quite a while, and he is a roll-of-the-dice play at FantasyScore at best.
