Rangers | Colby Lewis loses weight

Fri, 22 Jan 2016 18:16:25 -0800

Texas Rangers SP Colby Lewis said that he has lost 25 pounds this offseason cycling. His longest ride thus far has been 62 miles.

Fantasy Tip: Although Lewis won 17 games for Texas last season, the 36-year-old right-hander also posted a 4.66 ERA and 1.24 WHIP. As a result, he shouldn't be considered until the later rounds of drafts for AL-only and cavernous mixed leagues.

Rangers | Colby Lewis re-ups with Rangers

Fri, 18 Dec 2015 08:59:42 -0800

Free-agent SP Colby Lewis (Rangers) re-signed with the Texas Rangers Friday, Dec. 18, on a one-year, $6 million deal.

Fantasy Tip: Lewis won 17 games last year with a 4.66 ERA and 1.24 WHIP. At 36, you kind of know what you're getting. Wins aren't something you can really bank on, so he's a depth fantasy starter right now.

MLB | Colby Lewis rehab update

Thu, 03 Dec 2015 18:39:46 -0800

Free-agent SP Colby Lewis (Rangers) said he received the thumbs-up from Dr. Keith Meister on his surgically repaired left knee and he should be completely healthy by the time spring training camps open. He has been working out this offseason in the hopes of latching on with a team for the 2016 season.

Fantasy Tip: Lewis went 17-9 in 33 starts in 2015 but his 4.66 ERA and 1.24 WHIP weren't helpful to fantasy owners. The 36-year-old right-hander shouldn't be drafted outside of single-universe and deep mixed leagues as a back-of-the-rotation option.

Rangers | TEX could bring back Colby Lewis

Thu, 12 Nov 2015 18:14:40 -0800

The Texas Rangers are reportedly interested in bringing back free-agent SP Colby Lewis.

Fantasy Tip: Lewis, who turned 36 in August, went 17-9 in 33 starts last season but posted a 4.66 ERA and 1.24 WHIP and is coming off surgery to replace the torn meniscus in his left knee. He's not much more than a late-round flier in single-universe and deep mixed leagues.

Rangers | Colby Lewis undergoes knee surgery

Fri, 16 Oct 2015 14:29:17 -0700

Texas Rangers SP Colby Lewis (knee) had surgery to clean up his torn meniscus in his left knee Friday, Oct. 16. Lewis had pitched with it for much of the second half of the season.

Fantasy Tip: While Lewis won 17 games this season, his 4.66 ERA, 1.24 WHIP and 6.2 K/9 didn't help fantasy owners any. At best, he is a low-end AL-only starter heading into the 2016 season, and at 36, he likely has very little left in the tank.

Rangers | Colby Lewis flirts with perfection

Fri, 11 Sep 2015 19:51:00 -0700

Texas Rangers SP Colby Lewis took a perfect game into the eighth inning against the Oakland Athletics Friday, Sept. 11, before settling for a two-hit shutout.

Fantasy Tip: Lewis ($5,700, 11.4% of cap) had posted an 8.62 ERA in his previous three starts, and he has a 4.45 ERA for the year. Don't expect another start like this for quite a while, and he is a roll-of-the-dice play at FantasyScore at best.

Rangers | Colby Lewis filling the win column

Wed, 26 Aug 2015 14:57:12 -0700

Texas Rangers SP Colby Lewis is 10-2 with a 4.05 ERA thorugh his last 15 starts. Lewis is starting against the Toronto Blue Jays Wednesday, Aug. 26.

Fantasy Tip: A win likely won't come as easily for Lewis ($6,500, 13.0% of cap) Wednesday. Toronto is the highest-scoring team in the league and have averaged 9.0 runs per game over their last six outings. FantasyScore players should view Lewis as a risky option Wednesday, and it isn't out of the question to bench him in seasonal leagues.

Rangers | Colby Lewis stifles Tigers

Fri, 21 Aug 2015 19:59:49 -0700

Texas Rangers SP Colby Lewis allowed six hits and struck out two over seven scoreless innings in a win over the Detroit Tigers Friday, Aug. 21.

Fantasy Tip: Lewis ($4,700, 9.4% of cap) has delivered back-to-back strong outings, but he has been inconsistent all season and impossible to predict. He is nothing more than a shot-in-the-dark gamble at FantasyScore.

Rangers | Colby Lewis gets win No. 13

Sun, 16 Aug 2015 05:09:40 -0700

Texas Rangers SP Colby Lewis picked up his 13th win of the season Saturday, Aug. 15, against the Tampa Bay Rays. Lewis allowed five hits and one run over six innings.

Fantasy Tip: Lewis ($4,700, 9.4% of cap) has won five of his last six starts, and he has gone at least six innings in each. Lewis has allowed more than four earned runs in just six of his 24 starts this season, and he continues to be an effective FantasyScore option at his low price.

Rangers | Colby Lewis spins gem

Sat, 25 Jul 2015 05:43:10 -0700

Texas Rangers SP Colby Lewis struck out nine batters over 7 2/3 innings while allowing two runs on five hits and a walk during the Rangers' 4-2 win over the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim Friday, July 24.

Fantasy Tip: While Lewis ($4,300, 8.6% of cap) is up to 10 wins this season, his underlying statistics are far less favorable. He spots a 4.49 ERA, a 3.82 FIP, a 1.19 WHIP and a 6.8 K/9. Seasonal owners who are chasing wins could take a stab at Lewis, but you'll want to keep your expectations in check.
