Rangers | Josh Hamilton being tested more regularly

Mon, 27 Apr 2015 13:44:22 -0700

Updating an ongoing story, Texas Rangers OF Josh Hamilton (shoulder) said he will be tested for drugs and alcohol five times a week. It had been three times per week previously.

Fantasy Tip: Hamilton ($2,200, 4.4% of cap) is on track to return to the majors in mid to late May, and he remains a worthy stash in the majority of formats. The regularity of his testing is essentially irrelevant to his fantasy value, however, it should serve as another reminder of the risks associated with his fake stock. Still, expect a return to Texas to help Hamilton both on and off the field.

Angels | Josh Hamilton may be only player in deal

Fri, 24 Apr 2015 15:49:52 -0700

Updating a previous report, Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim OF Josh Hamilton (shoulder) could be the only player involved in a trade to the Texas Rangers, with cash considerations going to the Angels.

Fantasy Tip: Expect plenty of news on the pending deal over the weekend, and none of it will significantly impact Hamilton's fantasy value. He has the potential to have a solid season, but there is also plenty of risk. Continue to stash him in the majority of formats. However, if you find your hand forced with a lineup decision, cutting bait isn't out of the question.

Angels | Josh Hamilton heading to Arizona

Tue, 21 Apr 2015 16:27:02 -0700

Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim OF Josh Hamilton (shoulder) will report to extended spring training "this week," according to manager Mike Scioscia.

Fantasy Tip: Hamilton's ($2,200, 4.4% of cap) recovery from shoulder surgery reportedly is going well, but there's no timetable for when he'd be able to return to the team, and it's still possible he won't play for the Angels at all this year after relapsing from substance abuse. Progress on the playing front is good, though, and you should continue stashing him in deep mixed and AL-only leagues.

Angels | Josh Hamilton could return in June

Tue, 21 Apr 2015 06:30:27 -0700

Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim OF Josh Hamilton (shoulder) has a plan mapped out by the team that could allow him to return in June. Under the tentative plan, Hamilton would report to the Angels' Arizona training complex for two to three weeks in extended spring training. He would head out on a rehab assignment after that. Hamilton is expected to report to Arizona "sooner rather than later," according to a person familiar with the plan but unwilling to discuss it publicly until the Angels announce it.

Fantasy Tip: Hamilton still isn't guaranteed to play for the Angels, but his return could come within five or six weeks. If he's on the wire and you have DL space, it's worth the gamble.

Angels | Josh Hamilton going through divorce

Mon, 20 Apr 2015 09:16:27 -0700

Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim OF Josh Hamilton is in the process of divorcing his wife, Katie, according to documents filed in north Texas. Hamilton has had problems with substance abuse and self-reported a relapse earlier this year. Hamilton isn't allowed to see his children without supervision, according to court records, and he's also prohibited from going to the couple's properties in Texas and California.

Fantasy Tip: It's a very tumultuous time in Hamilton's ($2,200, 4.4% of cap) life yet again, and there's a good chance he may not play at all for the Angels this year. Not only is he trying to cope with a relapse and a divorce, but he's rehabbing his way back from shoulder surgery earlier this year. There's no reason to stash him in shallow mixed leagues.
