San Diego Padres SP Ian Kennedy and RP Joaquin Benoit have both been pulled back, after being claimed on waivers Tuesday, Aug. 18. Both pitchers are now ineligible to be traded.
Fantasy Tip: Kennedy ($5,700, 11.4% of cap) has allowed two earned runs or fewer in five of his last six starts, as he had significantly upped his value. Benoit has allowed just one earned run in his last 11.0 innings pitched, as he continues to be a reliable option at the backend of the Padres' bullpen.

San Diego Padres SP Ian Kennedy, RP Joaquin Benoit and OF Will Venable will not be extended contract extension offers, if they are not dealt in August.
Fantasy Tip: The Padres have a favorable upcoming schedule and playoff aspirations, so they stood pat at the deadline. However, they could still deal a few pending free agents, if they prove to be out of contention next month. It is a fluid situation, but at this point, it seems likely Kennedy, Benoit and Venable will stick with the Friars for a playoff race.

San Diego Padres SP Ian Kennedy and RP Joaquin Benoit are not of interest to the New York Yankees if they can't acquire Padres RP Craig Kimbrel, according to sources.
Fantasy Tip: Kennedy, Benoit or Kimbrel could all still be dealt in separate deals, but the Yankees have their sights set high while trying to upgrade an already stellar bullpen. Stay tuned as the trade deadline approaches.

San Diego Padres RPs Craig Kimbrel and Joaquin Benoit and Milwaukee Brewers RP Francisco Rodriguez are of interest to the Houston Astros as they look to upgrade their bullpen.
Fantasy Tip: Houston's interest in adding a bullpen arm is not what owners of Luke Gregerson want to hear, as he'd likely be removed from the closer role if they add one of those arms at the deadline. Other closing candidates would emerge in San Diego or Milwaukee, too, if a trade goes down. Stay tuned.

San Diego Padres RP Joaquin Benoit (shoulder) is fully recovered from right shoulder inflammation that he had been dealing with, according to manager Bud Black. Benoit hasn't appeared in the last five games and seven of the team's last eight contests.
Fantasy Tip: Benoit lost pretty much all of his fantasy value right before the 2015 season started when the Friars traded for lights-out closer Craig Kimbrel. And with Benoit inconsistent in the early going, he's not making much of a case to be owned in deep NL-only leagues, either.

San Diego Padres RP Joaquin Benoit will lose nearly all fantasy value with the addition of RP Craig Kimbrel Sunday, April 5.
Fantasy Tip: Benoit was set to open the season as the Padres closer but will now be relegated to a setup role. Unless you're in a league that counts holds, Benoit can be thrown to the waiver wire.
