In fact, he has been working with the first team in place of injured starter Steve Smith (hamstring). "He's kind of been a surprise as far as being able to pick it up as quickly as he has and been able to do the thing's he's doing," said wide receivers coach Richard Williamson. Even when Smith returns, Young could play a significant role in the offense.

Offensive coordinator Dan Henning said the team is still trying to find a WR to replace Kevin Dyson (Achilles') who will miss at least half the season. He believes Young could be that guy.
