Steve Corkran, of the Contra Costa Times, reports the Oakland Raiders have placed WR Scottie Montgomery on the exempt/left-squad list after he quit the team for an undisclosed reason. Montgomery appeared to have a shot at earning a roster spot as the fourth or fifth receiver.

Associated Press reports Denver Broncos WR/KR Scottie Montgomery (neck) complained of numbness in his neck after he was carted off the field during week thirteen’s game. Test results on the neck were negative and he was able to return to Denver with the team.

According to the Associated Press, Denver Broncos WR Kevin Kasper (sprained ankle) was able to practice today. WR Scottie Montgomery (knee) will not play tomorrow. "He has made a little bit of an improvement, but not enough," coach Mike Shanahan said. DT Trevor Pryce (back) was back at practice today and he will play tomorrow, barring any setbacks.

DenverBroncos.com reports Denver Broncos WR Scottie Montgomery suffered a shoulder injury during Thursday’s practice. Montgomery collided with S Eric Brown while trying to make a pass during red zone drills when the team was using shells, not pads. Head coach Mike Shanahan said that the injury didn’t appear to be serious, but had Montgomery sent for X-Rays since he got hit in the shoulder with Brown’s helmet.

As an update to a previous story, the AP reports Denver Broncos rookie DE Paul Toviessi is now expected to miss 2-3 weeks after he underwent arthroscopic knee surgery Tuesday. DT Maa Tanuvasa sprained his ankle in practice on Tuesday, but the extent of the injury is not known. WR Scottie Montgomery (flu) missed both practice sessions on Tuesday. Backup FB Detron Smith (ankle) was back at practice for the first time in 10 days. WR Keith Poole went through warmup drills on Tuesday but remains limited by a strained right hamstring.

He made a leaping touchdown catch and slammed his head on the ground but was later able to return to practice. DT Maa Tanuvasa suffered a minor injury after being kicked in the calf.

Lee Rasizer reports for the Rocky Mountain News that the Denver Broncos expect a battle for the No. 3 receiver this year. WR Eddie Kennison, who looked good during mini-camp, is currently the favorite to win the job. However, WRs Chris Cole, Travis McGriff, Muneer Moore, Scottie Montgomery, Chafie Fields and Kevin Kasper also want a shot at stepping up as the team's third wideout. Because WR Ed McCaffrey sat out of action, McGriff worked as a starter next to Rod Smith.
