Andrew Mason, of DenverBroncos.com, reports Denver Broncos rookie RB Santonio Beard believes he has put the off-the-field substance abuse issues that caused him to plummet off NFL Draft boards behind him. "I was going down the wrong path," Beard said. "I was doing some things that I shouldn't have been doing. If I would have been drafted, I probably wouldn't have stayed in the league long, because my total focus wasn't there." Some of the aforementioned issues included a 2001 DUI arrest and a positive drug test just months after he completed his career at the University of Alabama. "This humbled me," he said. "This put me in a state where I had to work and fight and do the right things all the time. It was the best thing to happen for me. Some people think it wasn't, but for me, it was, because it matured me a lot."
