Tue, 21 May 2013 14:49:13 -0700 Dallas Cowboys QB Tony Romo (back) said he didn't know about the cyst on his back when he signed a six-year, $108 million extension in March. Romo said he didn't have any pain in his back until mid-April. Romo expects to be ready for training camp, and he could even be ready for a minicamp in June. He said he's already fully healed after having surgery to remove his cyst.
Tue, 21 May 2013 09:12:00 -0700 Dallas Cowboys QB Tony Romo (back) said he will be ready for training camp in July after having minor surgery to remove a cyst on his back that will keep him out of organized team activities for the next three weeks. "If this was the regular season and I had to play next week, I could," Romo said. "This is just about being smart. That's why I did it now. This will have no effect on training camp. No way will it have an impact. And I still think there's a good chance I'm on the field for minicamp." The team does not fear that this will be a long-term injury, but they'll be cautious with him. Romo said the cyst was causing a constant ache in his back. QB Kyle Orton will work with the first-team offense with Romo out. Fantasy Tip: Romo will miss valuable time during OTAs gaining chemistry with his receivers and tight ends, but he'll have plenty of time to regain that during the team's June minicamp and training camp in July. This shouldn't affect Romo's draft stock at all as a midrange No. 1 QB.
Tue, 21 May 2013 05:28:04 -0700 Dallas Cowboys QB Tony Romo (back) had surgery to remove a cyst from his back just before the NFL Draft and will miss some OTA action. He's expected to be ready for mini-camp next month.
Fri, 17 May 2013 11:31:41 -0700 Dallas Cowboys head coach Jason Garrett said he wants quarterback QB Tony Romo engaged and involved in communicating between the coaches and the players. "The thing that we want from our quarterbacks is we want them to be engaged and involved," Garrett said. "Tony has always been that. Communication between all of our players and coaching staff is critical. It's certainly critical with that position." Fantasy Tip: Romo being more involved in the planning and weekly preparation is good for all involved in terms of communication, and could help eliminate some of the turnovers and mistakes that have hurt Romo in the past.
Thu, 16 May 2013 10:03:57 -0700 Dallas Cowboys head coach Jason Garrett has downplayed the fact that owner Jerry Jones said QB Tony Romo will have a significantly larger role in the offense this season. "It's really been similar to every quarterback situation that I've been involved in with every team that I've been involved in," Garrett. "In every place in this organization and in others, you're trying to get that kind of rapport between your starting quarterback and the coaching staff, and we've had it, and we'll continue to have that." Fantasy Tip: It's a bit unclear what exactly the team has planned for Romo this year, but at this point, we shouldn't expect much to change. Garrett said he wants Romo involved in the play calling, but it remains to be seen if Romo will be given more independence in that arena.
Wed, 15 May 2013 13:32:08 -0700 Dallas Cowboys vice president Stephen Jones said that QB Tony Romo will have more involvement than any player since QB Troy Aikman. However, head coach Jason Garrett said it will be no more than any other veteran quarterback. Fantasy Tip: Don't read too much into this statement just yet. Management and the head coach may have a different plan for Romo this year at the moment, and they could use him in different ways than before, but it probably won't change his value all that much. Consider Romo a low-end No. 1 QB heading into draft day.
Tue, 07 May 2013 05:44:40 -0700 Dallas Cowboys QB Tony Romo has passed on several golf tournaments he usually plays in during the offseason. He has been heavily criticized in the past for his golf commitments.
Sat, 04 May 2013 10:21:58 -0700 Dallas Cowboys TE Jason Witten said he believes QB Tony Romo's work ethic has been great even though owner/general manager Jerry Jones said Romo will be spending more time at the team's facility and being more involved in the offense. "I've always felt like Tony was very involved in the process of the plays and our scheme, how we attacked," Witten said. "I think in any organization where you have an elite quarterback like that, you want him to feel comfortable. I think that's something we've always tried to do, and it sounds like we're going to continue to do that."
Tue, 16 Apr 2013 20:22:54 -0700 The Dallas Cowboys gave QB Tony Romo a contract extension through the 2019 season, but that doesn't mean the team will not select a quarterback in the NFL Draft next week. "I think it's all opportunity," executive vice president Stephen Jones said in a radio interview Tuesday, April 16.
Fri, 05 Apr 2013 05:51:22 -0700 Dallas Cowboys DE DeMarcus Ware said QB Tony Romo has a responsibility to step up his game even further after signing a contract extension. "I feel like everybody is deserving to whatever is given to him, but at the end of the day, to me it's put up or shut up," Ware said. "I'm just being straight-up honest with you. Get out there and be productive, and that's with any player. Whatever they get, they're deserving of it. You just got to get out there and play and I know he can be and will be the quarterback that is going to be the quarterback that is going to take us to the next level."
