Cowboys | Tony Romo may consider retirement

Sun, 20 Nov 2016 08:58:57 -0800

Dallas Cowboys QB Tony Romo may consider retirement this offseason even though TE Jason Witten said he does not expect Romo to retire, according to sources.

Fantasy Tip: Romo probably will not return to the Cowboys next season, so he will have several options to consider. He probably would be a starter if he joins to another team and could be a low-end No. 1 quarterback in deeper leagues depending on the team.

Broncos | Tony Romo interested in Denver

Sun, 20 Nov 2016 08:16:38 -0800

Dallas Cowboys QB Tony Romo would be interested in going to the Denver Broncos if he is traded this offseason, according to sources. Romo is expected to have significant say in where he goes if he is traded.

Fantasy Tip: Romo probably will not be back with the Cowboys in 2017, so a trade appears to be a realistic option. The Broncos may not have interest in Romo since they have Trevor Siemian and Paxton Lynch on the roster. Romo could be a low-end No. 1 quarterback in deeper leagues depending on his team, but probably will not be a great option in standard leagues.

Cowboys | Tony Romo to serve as backup Sunday

Sun, 20 Nov 2016 07:32:39 -0800

Dallas Cowboys QB Tony Romo will be active as the No. 2 quarterback for Week 11's game against the Baltimore Ravens.

Fantasy Tip: Romo was listed as questionable on the injury report despite being a full participant in practice throughout the week. He possesses little fantasy value outside of deep seasonal leagues as long as Dak Prescott remains healthy, although he makes a decent handcuff option if you can afford the roster space.

Cowboys | Tony Romo move not on the table

Fri, 18 Nov 2016 06:55:05 -0800

Dallas Cowboys QB Tony Romo isn't considering retirement, and owner Jerry Jones said he hasn't considered Romo not being a member of the Cowboys.

Fantasy Tip: Romo feels he can still play, but it's probably not going to be in Dallas. If he lands a starting gig elsewhere next season, he'd likely be a QB2 raffle ticket.

Cowboys | Tony Romo has full practice

Thu, 17 Nov 2016 13:11:19 -0800

Dallas Cowboys QB Tony Romo (back) participated fully in practice Thursday, Nov. 17.

Fantasy Tip: It's already clear that Romo is now Dak Prescott's backup. That being said, Romo shouldn't necessarily be dropped. Prescott could get injured or start playing poorly and suddenly you have a borderline QB1 on your bench in Romo.

Cowboys | Tony Romo remains on the bench

Sun, 13 Nov 2016 22:42:59 -0800

Dallas Cowboys QB Tony Romo will remain on the bench in Week 11 against the Baltimore Ravens, as owner and general manager Jerry Jones said Sunday, Nov. 13, that QB Dak Prescott will remain starter in Week 11.

Fantasy Tip: Romo has obviously been the starter, but the team has won eight straight games and they have the best record in the NFL. Romo is worth scooping up as a reserve for the stretch run, especially if you're a Prescott owner. But Romo isn't worth starting any time soon.

Cowboys | Tony Romo could serve as backup in Week 11

Sun, 13 Nov 2016 08:02:39 -0800

Dallas Cowboys QB Tony Romo (back) could serve as the backup to QB Dak Prescott for Week 11's game against the Baltimore Ravens.

Fantasy Tip: Romo was a full participant in practice throughout the week leading up to the game versus the Pittsburgh Steelers. However, he is not expected to surpass Mark Sanchez on the depth chart for the No. 2 quarterback job until he has worked out with the first-team offense. Prescott will continue to serve as the starter for as long as he performs at a high level and there is little reason for seasonal owners to hold on to Romo unless they want an insurance plan for Prescott.

Cowboys | Tony Romo unlikely to be active

Sat, 12 Nov 2016 21:55:54 -0800

Dallas Cowboys QB Tony Romo (back) is unlikely to be activated for the team's Week 10 game against the Pittsburgh Steelers, according to ESPN's Ed Werder.

Fantasy Tip: This is largely procedural matter as Dak Prescott was always starting this game. It just means Mark Sanchez will back up the rookie once again.

Cowboys | Tony Romo practices in full

Fri, 11 Nov 2016 16:25:28 -0800

Dallas Cowboys QB Tony Romo (back) practiced in full Friday, Nov. 11, and is listed as questionable for the Week 10 game against the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Fantasy Tip: As long as rookie Dak Prescott is cooking along and ticking off wins, Romo will be a bystander. He has no use in fantasy football right now, unless you want an insurance plan for Prescott.

Cowboys | Another full practice for Tony Romo

Fri, 11 Nov 2016 12:50:05 -0800

Dallas Cowboys QB Tony Romo (back) was a full participant at practice for the third straight day Friday, Nov. 11.

Fantasy Tip: It would appear Romo is ready to return from his back ailment, but a recent report suggested he's still likely to be inactive again this weekend. Either way, this is now Dak Prescott's team, and owners have no reason at this point to continue holding onto the 12-year veteran.

Cowboys | Tony Romo likely to be inactive

Fri, 11 Nov 2016 05:25:27 -0800

Dallas Cowboys QB Tony Romo (back) will have completed his rehab if he makes it through practice Friday, Nov. 11, but he's unlikely to be active in Week 10.

Fantasy Tip: The team said they'll go with the hot hand, and there isn't much hotter of a hand than Dak Prescott. Romo provides little fantasy upside this season.

Cowboys | Tony Romo logs full practice

Thu, 10 Nov 2016 18:15:00 -0800

Dallas Cowboys QB Tony Romo (back) was a full participant in practice Thursday, Nov. 10.

Fantasy Tip: Romo is back at practice, but it remains to be seen if he will be active for Week 10, let alone start. At this point, he is merely a stash candidate in two-quarterback leagues.

Cowboys | Tony Romo takes part in practice

Wed, 09 Nov 2016 14:39:47 -0800

Dallas Cowboys QB Tony Romo (back) fully participated in practice Wednesday, Nov. 9.

Fantasy Tip: Romo appears to have a chance to be active for the team's Week 10 game but it is not known if he will be the starter or the backup to Dak Prescott. Owners will need to keep an eye on the situation because his status affects the value of two quarterbacks. He could be a low-end No. 1 quarterback in deeper leagues if he starts.

Wed, 09 Nov 2016 09:08:55 -0800

Updating an earlier report, Dallas Cowboys QB Tony Romo (back) will work with the scout team in practice Wednesday, Nov. 9, according to head coach Jason Garrett.

Cowboys | Tony Romo feels ready

Wed, 09 Nov 2016 06:51:26 -0800

Dallas Cowboys QB Tony Romo (back) feels ready to play and capable of taking hits after the compression fracture in his back, according to a source.

Fantasy Tip: It's very unlikely Romo sees the field unless Dak Prescott goes down. Romo isn't worth holding except maybe in dynasty formats with deep rosters.

Cowboys | Tony Romo will practice more

Mon, 07 Nov 2016 15:07:18 -0800

Dallas Cowboys QB Tony Romo (back) was cleared to practice fully last week and will practice more this week. Owner Jerry Jones has not ruled out the possibility of Romo being active for Week 10.

Fantasy Tip: The Cowboys are in somewhat of a conundrum with Romo nearing a return and with Dak Prescott playing so well. The veteran could remain on the sideline if the rookie continues to impress. For now, view Prescott as a borderline QB1 versus the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Cowboys | Tony Romo limited in practice

Thu, 03 Nov 2016 20:00:21 -0700

Dallas Cowboys QB Tony Romo (back) was listed as a limited participant in practice Thursday, Nov. 3.

Fantasy Tip: If Romo is active he is expected to serve as the backup to rookie Dak Prescott, who has been red hot as the starter. Romo is worth stashing away just in case Prescott takes a step backward, but avoid starting him.

Thu, 03 Nov 2016 09:57:49 -0700

Dallas Cowboys QB Tony Romo (back) is participating in practice Thursday, Nov. 3, and is expected to receive some work with the scout team.

Fantasy Tip: Romo is working his way back but probably will miss at least one more week because of the injury. It is not known if he will regain his starting job, which makes him a risky option for fantasy owners.

Tue, 01 Nov 2016 06:54:35 -0700

Updating an ongoing story, Dallas Cowboys QB Tony Romo (back) is likely to be back "at some point near the end of the year," according to owner Jerry Jones.

Fantasy Tip: Romo shouldn't be on fantasy rosters at this point as it appears he won't be a factor at all this season unless Dak Prescott goes down.

Dallas Cowboys QB Tony Romo (back) won't be ready to play Week 9 against the Cleveland Browns, according to owner Jerry Jones. Romo is expected to do more in practice this week.

Fantasy Tip: Dak Prescott will probably remain the starter as long as he's healthy. Romo is only worth holding in two-QB leagues in a desperate situation.

Cowboys | Tony Romo ruled out

Fri, 28 Oct 2016 13:46:12 -0700

Dallas Cowboys QB Tony Romo (back) will not play in Week 8 against the Philadelphia Eagles.

Fantasy Tip: The Dak Prescott show will continue for at two more weeks, based on reports earlier in the week. Romo can be left on waivers in most leagues, while Prescott has emerged as a low-end QB1 most weeks. The Eagles have been stingy against quarterbacks, however, so this may not be one of those weeks.

Cowboys | Tony Romo limited Thursday

Thu, 27 Oct 2016 12:32:38 -0700

Dallas Cowboys QB Tony Romo (back) was limited during practice Thursday, Oct. 27.

Fantasy Tip: Romo has missed the first seven weeks of the season because of his back injury and is probably still at least a week away from playing again. Dak Prescott likely will be the starting quarterback against the Philadelphia Eagles and could be a low-end No. 1 fantasy quarterback for owners.

Cowboys | Tony Romo remains out

Wed, 26 Oct 2016 06:08:21 -0700

Dallas Cowboys QB Tony Romo (back) continues to rehab and will not practice Wednesday, Oct. 26.

Fantasy Tip: Romo may not be the starter when he's fit to return, and he really holds little fantasy luster outside of two-QB leagues.

Cowboys | Tony Romo still not at practice

Mon, 24 Oct 2016 10:11:30 -0700

Dallas Cowboys QB Tony Romo (back) was not at practice Monday, Oct. 24.

Fantasy Tip: It was reported earlier Romo had yet to be "fully cleared" and this only confirms that report. Rookie Dak Prescott has played exceedingly well thus far, so expect the Cowboys to continue to stretch Romo's return out as long as possible. The aging veteran can be left on waivers in fantasy leagues for the foreseeable future.

Cowboys | Tony Romo awaiting clearance

Mon, 24 Oct 2016 08:34:25 -0700

Dallas Cowboys QB Tony Romo (back) hasn't been cleared to practice fully, and he'd likely need another MRI to receive clearance. Romo is unlikely to return in Week 9, according to sources.

Fantasy Tip: It's tough to see Romo supplanting Dak Prescott under center, barring injury, right now. Prescott is a fringe QB1 in fantasy.

Cowboys | Tony Romo needs to build strength

Wed, 19 Oct 2016 11:08:52 -0700

Dallas Cowboys QB Tony Romo (back) has been throwing some passes but needs to strengthen his core and back before he is ready to play. He is still not taking part in intense football activities.

Fantasy Tip: It is not known if Romo will regain the starting job once he is ready to play again because Dak Prescott has played well in his absence. Owners will need to monitor the situation because Romo can be a No. 1 quarterback for owners if he is starting and is healthy.

Cowboys | Tony Romo out for Week 8

Wed, 19 Oct 2016 06:07:21 -0700

Dallas Cowboys QB Tony Romo (back) won't be ready to return for Week 8 against the Philadelphia Eagles following the bye week. His status for Nov. 6 against the Cleveland Browns is also in question.

Fantasy Tip: Guess what else is in question? If the starting job will be his when he returns. He's only worth stashing in two-quarterback leagues.

Cowboys | Tony Romo not expected back Week 8

Sat, 15 Oct 2016 11:30:17 -0700

Dallas Cowboys QB Tony Romo (back) is no longer expected to make his season debut in Week 8 against the Philadelphia Eagles as originally expected, according to ESPN's Todd Archer. The Cowboys go on a bye after their Week 6 showdown with the Green Bay Packers.

Fantasy Tip: Although the bone in Romo's back has healed, Archer speculates the longtime Dallas quarterback will not get enough practice reps over the next two weeks but looks for him to return in Week 9. The Cowboys could ultimately decide to drag Romo's return to the lineup longer if impressive rookie Dak Prescott continues to perform as well as he has up to this point, although the team has been adamant Romo will play when ready. Both players should be considered QB2s for fantasy purposes.

Updating an earlier report, Dallas Cowboys QB Tony Romo (back) has been told by doctors that his vertebra has healed and should be as strong or stronger than it was before the injury. Romo is now focused on conditioning.

Fantasy Tip: Romo isn't guaranteed his job back, despite what the team is saying publicly. He really isn't worth owning except in two-quarterback leagues where roster space is available.

Mon, 10 Oct 2016 16:29:13 -0700

Dallas Cowboys QB Tony Romo (back) is healing well from his injured back and is on track to return after the Cowboys' Week 7 bye. A Week 8 return is likely the earlier possible return for Romo.

Fantasy Tip: It has been made clear that Romo will start when he returns despite Dak Prescott's hot start to his rookie campaign. Of course, there's no guarantee that Romo will stay healthy when he does return. Make sure to have a backup plan if Romo is your starter in a few weeks.

Cowboys | Tony Romo will remain the starter

Mon, 10 Oct 2016 09:10:00 -0700

Dallas Cowboys QB Tony Romo (back) is expected to undergo an MRI on Monday, Oct. 10, and owner/general manager Jerry Jones once again confirmed Romo will remain the starter when he is cleared to return despite the play of rookie Dak Prescott. "Tony is our No. 1 quarterback. … But I welcome the opportunity of having Dak playing at this level and Tony back in excellent health. It's going to be really special for the Cowboys," Jones said.

Fantasy Tip: It's actually getting to be a tired old story. Jones has stated several times his biggest regret as a general manager would be if he was unable to help a quarterback as good as Romo win a Super Bowl - words that make it sound pretty clear he thinks very highly of his injury-prone signal-caller. Romo is expected back around Week 8, although Prescott's continued inspired play could allow the Cowboys to push back that clock a bit. When he does in fact return, he will be a QB2 in fantasy.

Thu, 06 Oct 2016 08:27:39 -0700

Dallas Cowboys QB Tony Romo (back) had an MRI last week that showed encouraging signs, and it looks like he'll be ready to return in Week 8. He has started strength and conditioning work and has been out of the danger zone for two to three weeks.

Fantasy Tip: Romo is a huge risk in fantasy, and despite what the team has said, he's not guaranteed to return to the starting role. Dak Prescott is a solid QB2 to have right now.
