Cowboys | Tony Romo to have another scan

Thu, 04 Feb 2016 14:08:52 -0800

Updating a previous report, Dallas Cowboys QB Tony Romo (clavicle) will undergo another CT scan at the end of February or in early March, at which point the best way to proceed will be reassessed. There will be two options for Romo. A plate could be attached over the collarbone to limit the potential for further injury. If the CT scan shows good enough bone growth, though, then a portion of the clavicle could be shaved off or removed. The second method would place less long-term stress on the collarbone. Romo is still expected to undergo surgery at a later time.

Fantasy Tip: Romo should still be ready to play next season, but his slew of injuries may be taking a toll on his body and could make him even more fragile going forward. At full health, Romo is a QB1 candidate, but making it through a full season could be a challenge.

Cowboys | Tony Romo pauses surgery four weeks

Wed, 03 Feb 2016 06:10:16 -0800

Dallas Cowboys QB Tony Romo (clavicle) will be re-evaluated in four weeks before making a final decision on surgery to his left collarbone, according to sources. Romo had a CT scan a week ago on the collarbone, which showed good bone growth.

Fantasy Tip: Romo will be among the midrange QBs in next year's drafts, but his durability is a major concern. He'll be a boom-or-bust selection.

Cowboys | Tony Romo to lead familiar offense

Fri, 29 Jan 2016 18:34:41 -0800

Dallas Cowboys offensive coordinator Scott Linehan said he doesn't expect any major changes in the offensive philosophy in 2016, and he added that he expects QB Tony Romo back and ready to go for the start of the season.

Fantasy Tip: Romo carries some injury risk, but when healthy, he is a reliable QB1. Just make sure to have a quality backup plan in place.

Cowboys | Dallas may not draft QB

Wed, 27 Jan 2016 14:19:55 -0800

Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones said he doesn't feel pressured to draft a quarterback in 2016 as QB Tony Romo's heir apparent.

"There are many options," Jones said. "There's free agency ... We have to (draft a QB) to do what? We have to win a Super Bowl next year? Do we have to compete for a Super Bowl in the future? Do you have to have it in place after this draft? There's no have-to here, in my mind, because we have the luxury of having Romo here for three, four, five more years."

Fantasy Tip: There has been speculation that the Cowboys will acquire either Johnny Manziel or Robert Griffin III this offseason when either becomes available. Romo should be healthy entering the 2016 season, but he'll be 36 this year and is injury-prone. Romo can be a legitimate QB1 if he stays healthy, though.

Cowboys | Tony Romo's injuries a concern?

Wed, 27 Jan 2016 10:50:52 -0800

Dallas Cowboys QB Tony Romo's (collarbone) injuries are a concern, especially as he ages, according to former Cowboys QB Troy Aikman. "I think the collarbone certainly is a concern," Aikman said. "He's broken it now three times in, I believe, the last five years. As you mentioned, they're going to go in, they're going to put a plate in. That should strengthen it, is that going to be enough? I don't know."

Fantasy Tip: Romo will be entering his age-36 season in 2016, and we've all seen how aging quarterbacks can decline rapidly, especially one with injury concerns. When healthy, though, Romo can be a legitimate QB1 in fantasy circles. Just make sure you have your QB spot backed up if you run with him as your fantasy starter.

Cowboys | Tony Romo to be out a while

Sun, 24 Jan 2016 11:11:27 -0800

Updating a previous report, Dallas Cowboys QB Tony Romo (collarbone) is anticipating a six-to-eight week recovery from his eventual surgery date.

Fantasy Tip: Romo could theoretically still be ready in time for offseason activity, but that might be pushing it a little bit. He should be available for the start of the regular season, though, depending on how quickly he can recover. As stated earlier, he's a risky QB1 option at considering his injury history and the upcoming surgery.

Cowboys | Surgery planned for Tony Romo

Sun, 24 Jan 2016 11:05:47 -0800

Dallas Cowboys QB Tony Romo (collarbone) is planning to have surgery this offseason to plate his left collarbone to prevent future injuries, according to sources. Romo has fractured his collarbone three times in the past five seasons.

Fantasy Tip: Romo should be able to return for the beginning of the regular season, but he could be limited in his offseason activities while recovering from the surgery. Considering his injury history, he's a risky proposition for a starting fantasy quarterback right now.

Cowboys | Tony Romo will have scan

Sat, 23 Jan 2016 12:36:28 -0800

Dallas Cowboys QB Tony Romo (shoulder) will have a CT scan this week to determine if he needs shoulder surgery. Romo did say that his shoulder and back feel good.

Fantasy Tip: Romo has dealt with more than his fair share of injuries in his career. Fortunately for Romo he has several months to recover from a broken collarbone and possible surgery. When Romo is healthy he's a starting fantasy quarterback, but it's a matter of how long he stays healthy.

Cowboys | Dallas drafting Tony Romo's replacement?

Thu, 21 Jan 2016 21:36:16 -0800

Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones said he is open to using the team's first-round pick, No. 4 overall, to draft an heir apparent for QB Tony Romo.

Fantasy Tip: Given his recent injury history, it makes sense for Dallas to try to find a quality backup for Romo at some point in the draft. That being said, Romo is going to run the show as long as he is healthy and should be a serviceable QB1.

Cowboys | Tony Romo talks future

Tue, 19 Jan 2016 11:14:34 -0800

Dallas Cowboys QB Tony Romo plans to play at least four more seasons despite turning 36 this year.

Fantasy Tip: We'll see what Romo's back and health in general have to say about Romo playing four more years in the NFL. When he plays a full season, Romo is one of the best quarterbacks in the league, but he has only played six full seasons in his 12-year career. He should be viewed as a low-end QB1 for next season.
